« on: October 20, 2004, 11:51:43 AM »
Hey I need some help please. 2 weeks ago I mist an 800 because I mist 3 ten pins my 1st game I went 193-300-289=782. It is like I forgot how to pick up the 10 pin. What I would like to know is how some of you go about picking up you 10 pins? Thank you for any help.

I've had to really practice my tenpins because for a long time I could get them, but now I get get them on a whim with out ever thinking about it, I just stand 35 and shot between 20 & 15, there you go, tenpin...

WHat we are all guilty of when shooting spares is lack of focus, from time to time, because we take them for granted. WHatever worked for you before will work again, IF you focus on the 3 or 4 tiny details needed for every shot.

Mine are
- getting my body lined up and angled with my intending walking path,
- lining up ball, shoulder and target,
- pushing away properly (everyone's is different; so no details),
- walking toward my target, &
- completing the shot.

I can feel your pain.

I agree with what Charlest says also I usually always miss my first seven pin of the night because first of all I use my strike ball (particle) and have to have the right hand position and speed which is totaly different from my strike ball, then I concentrate more because I don't want to miss another one. I can throw a particle/reactive ball at the seven because there is an out of bounds outside 7 if there wasn't I would use a plastic ball and shoot across the middle arrow.

I carry four balls don't want to carry a fifth ball/spare ball unless I have to.

I do not use a plastic spare ball.
With my strike ball, I target centre arrow and I finds it easier.

Practice, practice, and practice.  The last time I missed a couple in a game, my next practice session was devoted to shooting 10 pins - 30 frames of nothing but 10 pins before I made 10 in a row.  Since doing that about a month ago, I think I've missed 2.  Most nights I leave anywhere from 4-8 in 3 games.  And, I do use plastic for the 10 pins (and 6), even though I can throw just about any ball straight.  I just like to take the lane out of play as much as possible.

You have 19 300's and 8 300's and you can't make a 10 pin?  Bumped several times without adding anything?  Sounds a little fishy to me for some reason.  Have you tried any of the advice given so far?  I could see a beginner needing guidance, but...

Stand near the left gutter, flatten out your wrist, lead with your ring finger, throw a plastic ball between the 3rd and 4th arrow depending on how far left you started.  Some have more success with targeting further down the lane for 10's.  Look for a reflection fight in front of the pin perhaps.

Either you have a mental block, or you just need to practice shooting them over and over for 30-60 minutes a day.

Hey Strider I hate to tell you this but I am not a beginner. I just got back in to the game this year. My shot that I use at the 10 pin dose not work at the House I'm bowling at. So theres no fish here.

I suggest the Parallel Spare Shooting System. Search it on Google, and it is written by Fred Borden.

ahhhh, I too used to struggle with the ten pin. Best thing I could have ever done was reach into the closet and resurect my first ball (plastic) and start shooting at the stuff on the right side with them. I'm amazed at how accurate I am now. This alone has helped me in leaps and bounds.

Replied to your message.  Sorry if I came off wrong.  If you would have given more information and told us what you've tried and what's not working, it would have helped.  Even if sounded harsh, I did give several pieces of advice myself.

That cool Strider sorry if I took it wrong. Where I bowl now is allot of OB. The lane are like a Polish block. Dry inside and Wet out side. I have no problem riding the oil from the OB to get a strike. It is a real tight line. I'm just have a hard time getting through the heads at the ten.
