13 lb equiptment
« on: March 08, 2010, 08:31:01 AM »
Hello,
My mother is in the market for a new ball. Due to age she throws 13 lbs. Does anyone now if there are different cores in the following balls when the weight drops to 13lbs.

Storm Reign
Columbia Bedlam
Track 505A

Thanks for your help,
Gonz

Thanks for the response DrRevv2000, but the info I was looking for is are the cores different in those 3 pieces due to the 13 lb weight. I know often manufacturers go to a light bulb or similar core when the weight drops below 14lbs.

I know at one time dynamic integrity was a marketing push from some manufacturers to keep cores the same in lighter weight equipment(though obviously RG's, etc would change) Looking at Storm, Track and C300 websites, I could not find any info on cores in balls under 14lbs.

Just  reason to bring back the old Quantum line as they were very upfront about the using same mushroom core no matter what weight....

Thanks in advance to all that may respond-
Gonz

I read on an another forum that Brunswick and morich balls have the same core shape and differential in 13lbs balls. Not sure about rg numbers though. Have a girl playing with a couple of Brunswick balls, and the flare patterns look similar to the heavier balls. With ebonite and columbia no matter what ball i saw, there was minimum amount of flare with minimal separation. Its good for maintaining speed i think but have a short hook phase.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I suppose that all of them won't have the "true" core inside. Storm balls have AFAIK a pancake, not sure about Columbia/Track.

Brunswick uses generic cores at that weight, they have an overview about designs and numbers in the pro shop area on their website.

Storm/Roto retain their core shapes down to 12lb below that it''s a pancake. The alter the densities and if required reduce the overall size of the core to get the ball to the desired weight. Brunswick uses a generic core in their 12 and 13lb balls

Just to update, I emailed Storm on if the Reign retained the same core type in the 13# version. This was the reply-

Hello,

Unfortunately due to lighter density’s it does not, it will have a shape similar to this link I will provide.

MoRich is the only company I'm aware of that uses the same core shape (not sure about density) in their 13 lba balls.  --  JohnP
