1st or 2nd shift league?
« on: August 25, 2006, 08:05:12 AM »
So, at the University of Maryland we have a small 8 lane alley. Our league is on tuesday nights and there are usually two shifts to accomodate everyone. My question is this...would you rather bowl the first shift or the late shift with the broken down (pattern) lanes?

Last year, during the fist shift, we saw a wide variety of oil patterns in this league from light to very heavy oil. There had even been occasions where the lanes had no oil and were completly scorched.

I'm much more used to late leagues.

I've bowled both in the past, seemed to bowl better in my early days on broken down patterns (second shift), these days I've learned to adjust if I have to bowl on either the fresh shot or a broken down shot. Depends on the consistency of the bowlers in front of you I guess.

Thanks guys,

Had a little practice on the lanes today which got me a little worried. It was a very heavy oil pattern that pretty much carried down the entire length of the lane. My paradigm barely moved during the first 2 games...unfortunatly for me my Scorchin was in the shop. Even when I got the ball to move, my range was only about 3 boards wide...needless to say, it was pretty tough.

Like Bones said, I will be at the mercy of the bowlers before me, but I think my game is a bit more adjusted to lighter oil patterns as I haven't had to deal with this scenerio much in my old house.
