1st time in over 20 years
« on: July 24, 2008, 12:17:44 AM »
Well, this could be the first time in 20+ years that I may not establish an average.  Even when I had a life altering illness, I still managed to bowl 21+ games to establish an average.  It was a 40+ pin drop in average but i still did it.  I am unable to financially afford bowling this year due to loss in hrs at work and my auto gas bill doubling.  All of my "disposable" income is gone.  I will still be a non paying sub in the scratch league I've bowled in for the past 15 years but I don't foresee bowling more than 15 games in the season.  Who knows, maybe I'll get luck and manage to sub enough to establish an average.

I completely understand your situation. I think all the working class feel the effects of PRICE INCREASES! I went to the PET STORE yesterday .. we needed some cat food .. while my wife was getting the food I went to the DOG food section .. PRO PLAN dog food went from $28 to $34 .. I only picked up a bag less then a month ago! Just got my REAL ESTATE TAXES .. increase about 40% .. things are getting ridiculous!

The actively employed people struggle but have a possibility of getting PAY ADJUSTMENTS that will help .. stop and think for a minute of those retirees that have FIXED INCOME from (in my case) 1995 .. how do they make it? I consider myself lucky .. I live off my savings .. BUT how long can Seniors do that?

I'm not trying to take away from your point ... again .. I totally understand! Years ago the question was put up .. what is killing bowling? I responded with PRICE .. and I was torn apart .. my point wasn't bowling costs alone but all the increases the bowler has to contend with .. when push comes to shove .. the extras have to go and BOWLING is an EXTRA!

It can be even worse in retail. I don't get raises, never have. My boss says if you want to make more money sell more, but if people are buying less because of finances being tight I get a pay decrease.

Again I see your situation .. for curiosity .. how much has your GROSS INCOME changed in the last 12 years? My answer to that question is ZERO. First thoughts on that is SOCIAL SECURITY gives an increase every year .. TRUE .. but MEDICARE increases offset that making GROSS INCOME change ZERO!

You working people ain't seen nothing yet!
