I''m sure after bowling everyone has sat around with other people just shooting the bull. Well last night there were about 8 of us one being a pro shop owner and I''ve never heard or read on this sight what he said I want to know others view.
1) shop owner said when Storm balls lose their fragrance they start turning back into a urethane ball thus loss of reaction:
My response was oil causes the loss of reaction.
2) He ask everyone how long they thought they could use a abralon or other pads
75 uses was his answer(I know he meant they would not be considered new their whole life).
Our responses were 4-10
To the guys with the knowledge is this guy right?

i heard you can use abralon at its intended grit for about 6 balls depending on water use and pressure. but im sure you could use it and just consider it a higher grit for a while after that. not too sure on those numbers but its what i go by

I don't know about your first question but as for the abralon pad use, I have been told you can use them for about 75 ball spins.. that is coming from a storm rep on how they spin their balls..

If I''''m reading what you were told right, 75 ball spins, you can''''t do a resurface with a spinner in 75 spins. Most spinners are up there in the RPM''''s, so I think they told you something wrong, JMO.

As far as how many balls can one use a pad on, that''''s something I doubt no one will ever know, it depends on how you treat the pad. For me, I use a hard nail brush in water to knock off the ''''dust'''' and a lot of water as I use the pad. When I''''m done, it dries and then I use an air compressor to blow off any ''''dust'''' that remains, another water bath/scrub and it''''ll dry again before it''''s ready for use.

If you watch the videos from Innovative, at least the one I watched a few months back, they used the pad dry so it won''''t last as long, IMO. An old Storm video I had showed them using just a spray bottle and not a lot of water, again IMO. So I think it''''s more on how one does it, water used and cleaned after use than a "set number".

I'm sure he meant the reaction of a storm ball turns to that of a urethane ball.

As for the abralon pads...the factory's may get 75 bowling balls with 1 pad...however you have to remember they are using 3 pads on each machine, with lots of water and only sanding the ball for less then a minute..

At the Jigsaw Corner seminar they said they change the pads on the resurfacer mAchine used every 75 balls. They were very insistent to note the large amount of water used during the process. Also to point out that there are 3 pads being used on each ball and it's at a consistent pressure

You can also forget the "losing the scent turns them into urethane" theory of his.

A friend has an original Storm TRAUMA that hardly has any scent left whatsoever. You have to heat it up to smell it at all, yet it still hooks nicely and still hits a ton.
