a little issue i have
« on: May 01, 2009, 06:42:43 AM »
I am having issues with my ball.

On a Saturday morning I bowl on a League condition (do not know length) on wood lanes.

When i got my avalanche solid i could circle the lane to start then had to move to around 2nd arrow just left when playing moderate hook and into around 14 out to 5 or 6 at the breakpoint but now i am throwing it to 6 to 5 or 6 at the breakpoint when playing moderate hook and the ball will not move when throwing it up the back with higher speed i used to be just left of first arrow.

The other problem is that on a league condition i believe it should be that if you miss a little right the ball recovers and if you miss a little left it slides and hits the pocket. However if i miss left it slides and comes up high flush but a miss right (outside of 5) the ball skids and skids and skids and comes in very direct on the 6 pin and just catching the 3 pin leaving 1 5s, 1 5 7 and harder combinations.

Is the problem me or is it the ball?

have you any advice if it is the pattern i tried moving into 7-8 at the breakpoint and the ball just hooked back and i moved into 9-10 at the breakpoint and the ball hooked back but where most of the time i would leave a weak 10 it is an 8 10 time after time

chipmunk,

sounds like the center either put out a heavier shot, or a longer shot than they had out before.  Having a ball that formerly would hook a significant amount and finished hard "suddenly" become a straighter, weaker finishing ball is usually a sign that the shot has changed.

This is one of the major reasons so many people feel the need for so many different balls. NO two houses have the same exact shot, at least not on purpose, so we have different balls capable of handling different levels of oil.

Give it a few days. The heavier shot may have been a mistake, or a fouled up oiling machine, and things could return to "normal" in a day or two ( or three ).  If not, you can alter the surface of your current ball to help it handle a little heavier volume of oil if you have to.

The core in the avalanche solid isn't too strong, but it has a good coverstock ( PK18 ) and takes cover changes pretty good.

sounds exactly like what i get on one of my leagues. do you know what surface the center you bowl in has? the reason i ask is i get that alot on brunswick hpls. what ive done this year is stay away from the gutter. i try not to get my ball outside of 8 at the back of the pattern. that way if i miss a couple boards it'll at least make it back half pocket. the center i bowl in normally forces me to start with a strong pearl(paradigm) and then switch to say a hot rod ss pearl as they break down. basically the reaction i was getting close to the gutter is one would hook, then one would just lay there. only problem is if the center has carry down problems, it makes it a long night, but ill take a 9 count anyday, and know what the ball is gonna do, than a big split and no control of the pocket.
