a bowling alley near me CLOSED down a few months ago because of financial decline after the smoking ban was instituted in NYC, and 4 or 5 restaurants i used to love have now closed also.  while i am not a smoker and prefer to be in a non smoking environment, i dont agree with this new concept of the government controlling our lifestyle.  if an establishment feels that they need to better accommodate a certain group of people...whether its smokers, non smokers, handicapped...let them make that decision.  these are privately owned businesses and corporations that are being told how to run a business. customers will decide whether or not they wish to enter an establishment, and it didnt seem like many people stayed away because of the smoking.  not being able to smoke in a bar is like not being able to eat in a restaurant.  

-if health is sooo important(the ONLY reason bloomberg said he wanted this law), why hasnt NYC banned the use of soda machines in schools, when they are extremely bad for the health of what has already been diagnosed an "overweight youth"?  the answer is because the city can make tons of $$$$$ by contracting companies to sell it.

-why does NYC say that the use of fireworks is illegal without a permit, when only 22 tickets were handed out in the ENTIRE CITY over the 4th of july weekend?  the headline of our newspaper called staten island a "warzone" on the 4th.  if you know a cop, or are a cop, you get away with it.

-why is NYC pushing for a law that would make residents pay the NYC sales tax on items purchased OUTSIDE of NYC???  we purposely buy it outside to not pay the ridiculous tax, and they want to charge us anyway.  its like living in a foreign country, and having to pass through customs on your way back.

if our government, whether its local or federal, wants to control our lifestyle, we might as well go live in a communist society, or just move to canada and get good health insurance.  maybe there its too cold to even light a cigarette.
