Advice for a sweat machine

First off, I sweat like a pig, especially as we get to the warmer weather.  Practicing tonight, by myself, my shirt was soaked and I have a bad habit of laying the ball against my abdomen when I put my hand in the ball.  Note to you Thing owners, it doesn't soak up sweat either, sweat just lays on the ball and makes it skid.  The last two games I consciously kept the ball away from my body when I put my hand in it and the Thing dried out and started snapping like it should again.  Does anybody have any advice or methods of keeping my shirt dry while I am bowling?  or any measures I can take to dissipate it? I am talking major league sweat, by the my fifth game tonight I looked like I had been outside in a downpour.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

I can readily relate to the sweat machine philosophy....I do the same thing, especially since the climate where I live is typically hot and humid.  Did I mention that you can often cut the air with a knife around here?

In fact, I carry one towel just to be used as a sweat towel.  I use it to keep my face wiped off, or otherwise I'll wind up leaving a trail of sweat all over the approach, and sweat on the approach is a guaranteed sticking incident waiting to happen.

Unfortunately I don't have any good answer for 'ya.  And I, like you, have found that sweat getting on the ball will add to the skid on the lane.

I, too, can relate to the sweating.  Sometimes I look like the Patrick Ewing of bowling.  I have found that I seem to sweat a lot less if I don't drink alcoholic beverages.  If I just drink water instead of beer or soft drinks it's not quite as bad, but damn, I love an ice cold beer when I'm bowling!

avoid caffeinated beverages and alcohol.  These have a diuretic effect that tends to draw water out of your body.  Other than that, the best thing to do would be to keep a "sweat" towel with you.  The abdomen thing sounds a little tricky.  Might just have to consciously remember not to touch the ball to your abdomen for a while until it becomes a habit.

1. I sweat like this practicing alone or if bowling a doubles league, when bowling a 3-5 man league I sweat a little bit, usually have to make sure my hand is dry each frame.

2. I refrain from alcohol, but Mountain Dew is by beverage of choice (habit). I'll switch to water, that should help.

3. The bowling centers here in Southern Indiana are still being cheap and not turning their A/C on, I think that Memorial Day is the magic day.  I'm bowling the state this weekend, hope it is about 50 degrees in there.

4. Patrick Ewing and Shaquille O'Neal have NOTHING on me.  

5. My wife suggested a light undershirt to try to get some wicking effect, might try that too.

well, if you have some money to spend go out and pick up a few nike dri-fit shirts, they dont absorb the sweat they dissepate it and evaporate it as fast as you can sweat it out, there are other brands besides nike but they are all fairly expnsive for a thin shirt...

I have a friend with this issue. If you can get used to it. he bought one of those "snake" like things at a county fair. The ones with gel inside them that you can freeze or heat. he would freeze it(actually soak it in a bowl of water with ice cubes in it) in the morning and then before bowling bring it with him and keep it on his neck. Sometimes just having it on your neck between shots can work too.

Yep, I'll break a little sweat even on a 5 member pace.  I'll drip sweat on a 4 member pace, I'm like a wet dishrag on a 3 member pace, and I'm soaked from head to toe on a doubles pace.  Again, my neck of the woods is notorious for both heat and heavy duty humidity, so it just goes with the territory.  I've noticed while bowling out in Reno before, I'll sweat and feel chilled at the same time....after a while, my shirt will get stiff with salt while bowling in the high altitude, low humidity setting....Reno is about 4,500 feet above sea level.  Wierd things happen to the body at higher altitudes, especially since I live only about 220 feet above sea level.  I've noted similar problems at Salt Lake City, and it too is about 4,500 feet above sea level.
