AMF bowling centers closing in you area???
« on: March 11, 2005, 03:06:00 AM »
I was wondering if any of you have an AMF bowling center that is closing in your area?  I'm writing this as an expansion of the previous topic "AMF in NYC".  My center, AMF Seminary Lanes in Alexandria, VA is closing in May when they did not decide to renew their lease.  I'm wondering if this a result of the financial problems that AMF was experiencing?

Are any of you experiencing AMF centers closing this year?

Dang guys,

Im glad I live in the area I do.  I bowl in both an AMF house, and a Brunswick house.  The AMF House is cheaper, cleaner, and in much better shape.

Brunswick House = $2.59 a game reg. price  ($1.59 league discount)

AMF House = $1.50 a game reg. price (.25 league discount)

The AMF house here is MUCH better.  It's only 12 lanes, but the owner keeps everything in ship shape, and has the best equipment he could afford (not sure on the technical stuff, but its newer and recently installed).  It's very clean as well, and the food there isnt overpriced.

This house, however, is owned an opperated by a former PBA bowler, who is currently on several boards and over many things involving the PBA, USBC, BPAA, YABA, and several other organizations.  He knows how to treat his customers and keep the place packed, and thats how he keeps comming out ahead with his low prices.  Very good little house here in the Charleston Area if any of you get a chance to stop by.  This site hasnt been updated in quite a while, but you can check it out anyway at.

Rodney,

The centers that folks are talking about are owned and run by AMF.  Most AMF-owned facilities are poorly run and way overpriced, their prices are set by the "home office".

Privately-owned facilities can set their own prices, typically lower, and are usually nicer/cleaner...because they care about their customers!

I'm hoping that a private business owner buys out AMF Seminary.  The Safeway grocery store that was above it closed, and Magruders decided to move their store there.  Hopefully, it will have the same fate.  We need to have a high quality PBA caliber lanes in the DC area.  I would pay a higher fee if I knew I was playing at a higher quality lane.
