Any advice for the Autobahn oil pattern?
« on: June 28, 2014, 04:11:11 PM »
I'm in week 2 of a 6 week tourney with Kegel Sport shots. This week is Autobahn. I would appreciate any advice for this pattern and the others. Thanks in advance.

its 42' and 2.5-1 ratio
25.84ul volume

as a rule of thumb, you want to keep your angles up front straighter.
its pretty much a flatter house shot
breakpoint should be around 10-11 at the end of the pattern.
use as little surface as possible and still have ball reaction, to much surface to start and you will blow up the heads and then it will be even tougher.
repeat shots and keep the ball in play
spares are the key on these tougher patterns, learn to throw straight at all single pin spares, i throw straight at all spares except double wood.
this will take the pattern out of play.
when i practice on tougher patterns, i do not mark score and i throw at all spares.

possibly, depending on how much traffic on your side.
the length of the pattern really should dictate where to play.
shorter patterns should play further out
longer patterns should play closer to the headpin
with this pattern being so flat, it will be far less forgiving on missed targets
wherever you play, stay straighter in the front part of the lane, if/until the lane starts to open up.
you are always looking for hold in and friction out.

there is no magic line that is going to better than another, you will have to determine that once you start on it.
In general, on the flatter patterns, you look to play the lane front to back, not side to side.
the side to side thought process is for the house conditions.
good luck

Dave's advice is spot on....but I think he missed one important aspect. Lane topography plays an important part in this as well. Only you, at this point, know how your house plays. Some house have more built in friction due to the age/wear of the lanes, others the exact opposite. Use what Dave mentioned as a starting point and then let the lanes themselves dictate where you go from there.

587 on Dead man's curve. Bad, but made it to top 5 because of spare shooting. 500 on autobahn. Missed spares like crazy. I watched the match between 4 and 5 and realized I was too far left on autobahn. Next week either turnpike, highway to hell, boardwalk or winding road. Again tips are appreciated.

The tips aren't going to change. Use the -31 rule to find where to play to start. Then use what the lanes tell you based on your ball reaction and go from there. Everything else remains the same.

if you really want to learn how to play on these conditions, the best thing you can do is educate yourself. plenty out there to read.
for me. i wanted to be better, thats it.
i struggled at first, eye opener for sure, many years at 220 or more on THS
multiple honor scores on THS
went to sport leagues and averaged 170 at first, now after a few years. 200 average.
i was darn excited to shoot 700 on a sport condition (still am)
from my research and finally a coach, i felt my technique needed some work.
so i made sure my grip was proper (it wasnt) learned about surfaces, layouts, etc.
same old add-age, you have to put in the work to get results, no way around that fact
