That was interesting from the aspect that he basically said, when WRW had a similar experience with a fan and camera, that a PBA pro has to be prepared for anything and that was part of the game. Just goes to show you that when using the critic's eye on others it may come back and rear its ugly head on you.

I have both shows and let me tell you it is apples and oranges on what happened to Walter Ray Williams Jr and Randy Pederson.

Walter had a camera flashed in his face. He acted professional enough not to lose his cool too much. Kirk Von Krueger, the Director specifically told the audience no flash photography. Sounds like a simple rule to me. Apparently, the PBA didn't do any frisking after that incident and the same thing happend by a fan in the 2005 US Open to Patrick Allen. Again, he told the fan not to do that, did throw a 4 letter word muttered and that was that. Both resulted in open frames because of a split and a washout.

Randy Pederson was different. He disgraced himself on national tv. Apparently, and coincidently at the end of the game on a must strike ball a fan supposedly said or shouted something on the 2nd level of the auditorium. I couldn't hear it on tape, but Pederson made himself look foolish and unprofessional. The thing that ticks me most off about Randy Pederson is HE WAS LUCKY JUST TO BE ON TV much less the whole tournament. A few touraments before, Amleto Monacelli knocked him out of the Tournament of Champions. BUT...Pete Weber, who was in the TOC dropped out due to a shoulder injury. That then let Randy Pederson back in the tournament. Granted, he went through all the brackets to make it to tv, but still that was the biggest insult from a PBA player I've ever seen!

CRX,

yes you are correct on Kirk stating that about flashes but the person who did it was very developmentally handicapped. Walter was very pissed for a few minutes but later came back and apologized to the individual. They were quite traumatized when he yelled. By no means did they have any clue as to what they were doing. Randy showed his intelligence with his statements.

If you recall, Randy Pederson threw a pretty decent shot when he was so upset, he merely failed to carry a corner pin and lost to Norm Duke by a single pin.

Honestly, I can understand the outburst. When everything you've worked for comes down to one shot, and some d!ck yells out something to maliciously try to throw you off, well I can say I would have been worse... I woulda walked up and approached the guy and called him out. I would've been waiting in the parking lot with a tire iron. It would have been ON!!!... Not because it cost me the game, you can always win another day, but because of the principle. You want to attack me in a cowardly way, well, you should be ready to throw down. I'm not talking about a camera flash, that could be honest mistake, and yes, that is understandable. That is a fan trying to get a picture, not trying to purposely throw you off. So I say, Randy, you are a better man than I am, because that situation would have ended with someone being taken away in an ambulance if it were me...

SirAshley, I'm gonna have to side with CRX on this one.  I watched the telecastlive and have seen it several times on tape.  I've had the volume turned WAY up and have yet to hear anything that may have dramitically affected his effort.  Like I said, he threw a good shot and failed to carry.  From there on in, IMHO, he made a complete buffoon of himself.

I have seen it, he did look like an as$. I didn't hear anything either. He may very well have overreacted and that is possible. I was just trying to make the argument that if someone maliciously tried to ruin your chance at winning a tournament by trying to yell and distract you, you would react. I know I would. I realize that this is perhaps a character flaw but I feel if someone has a problem with me let's settle it like men, don't disrupt my chance at bringing home a paycheck to my wife. Although it is just a game, that is how they make a living and it should be respected... Again, he may have overreacted as I did not hear anything either, but I wasn't there so it's hard to judge...

He may have looked like an ass, but it cost him a title. We all know when the ball just doesn't come off our hand right we leave corner pins.. so I can see his point of being pissed.

I personally just think it was the wrong place.. he should of just flipped out in private.

Um, so, like, you've NEVER thrown a decent shot and left a corner pin?  Come on.  I'm not certain if you've seen the shot we're referring to.  It was a pretty decent shot that simply failed to carry.  Unless you're Robert Mushtare, it's been known to happen, from time to time.

I saw that show on Strike Pass, it was an embarrassment.  A pro should be able to handle a minor distraction (I remember playing it back trying to listen for a sound, didnt hear anything).  Sure it cost him the title, but damn, did you ever see Jordan screaming at fans after a missed buzzer shot?

I wish I still had the video. I had it on VHS because I was at that show. It was the TOC two years ago....I think.

That's right Ty, I forgot about that and the only reason that fan threw that beer at Artest was because he was a coward who never in a million years thought Artest would come after him... He was wrong... and Artest had every right to go up there and pop him one.

Lane 1 who,

Would you care to enlighten us? Like many others have said, the TV feed did not allow us to hear what was actually said or to see what may have been done by the fan in question. What did you see/hear? What did Randy do after the fact? I know that he was back up in the booth broadcasting the next match, so he couldn't have gotten too out of hand in the short time he had between losing the match and the beginning of the next one. Fill us all in on what we missed.

On a side note, I can certainly understand Randy's anger. I mean, that was his shot to keep his Tour career alive. If I felt that someone deliberately screwed with me while I was making the biggest shot of my life, I would be pretty ticked too. However, I do not condone what he did. He wound up looking very foolish. So, again, I understand why he did it, but that didn't make it right.
