Balls Used in the PBA
« on: March 27, 2008, 07:41:22 AM »
I have a question for those out on the PBA Tour or sponsored by a ball company. How long does a ball last until you decide to give it up completely?30-40 games? Do they recycle bowling balls or just dispose it? I know professionals can get as many balls as they want, just a curious thought

I've seen plenty of them up for sale on eBay.  Danny Wiseman sells his arsenal towards the end of the season like that.  Jeff Carter sells equipment on his website for charity.

I've heard that some guys will have a kid caddy for them during the tournament and might give 'em a ball at the end of it.

How many games?  No telling.  Certainly they have easy access to new equipment, especially staffers.

A friend of mine that is currently on tour brings in used stuff from a bunch of the guys to sell in his proshop. He says that most stuff doesnt last longer than the current weekend. Other than there favorite ball or two. He says that stuff is drilled up for that particular pattern and lanes, then scrapped, or given away.

Some amateur players (we do not have true pros around here) are sponsored by major manufacturers - they receive test balls before official sales for tests and feedback, and get sponsored equipment. AFAIK, the balls also do not "last" very long. Some favorites might survive the season, but test balls might quickly change the owner - they are either sold as used balls, some end up on ebay, some are donated to the clubs' youth programs.
