Barrette and her pinky
« on: June 01, 2003, 01:16:37 AM »
Did anyone else notice her moving her pinky to get the ball to move a little earlier?? I don't think she needed to do this and that her reaction would have been a little more even if she would have not spread her fingers like that...

any takers........

On the fresh, it wasn't a bad decision.  As I mentioned earlier, I know the backends were really jumpy for the first couple of games to begin the day, and that was with 3 and four bowlers to the pair.  That spread pinky helped keep things a little more controlled...let's face it, after 56 games that included two blocks of qualifying on the fresh and two matchplay squads on the fresh, you have to believe she felt that was the best option at the time.

It was interesting to see how far she pulled her pinky over. However, I probably would have done the same thing if the shot was breaking too hard with the pinky in any other position. And - it was really obvious she had to play a much tighter line than she likes.
There was no room on the right.

It looked like the right was playable though, just from when she made the bad shot in the 1st frame against Kelly.  Of course it was a bad shot, and wasn't going to make it, but I was surprised it came back that much.  Maybe it was a fluke, but it looked like there was some reaction out there.  Touchy, to be sure, but I've always found moving left, and slowing my speed fixes just about any problem I might be having with the conditions.  The deep angle automatically helps with the length, and the surface helps it back.  It looked like there was plenty of oil in the middle though, Kelly looked to have about 5 boards to play with, flush to mixer anyway.  Her release area was pretty small though, I saw one shot she put down way too far right, and I believe she hit her target, but of course she nosed it for one of her many 4-7's.  She was playing the more versatile shot though, and was hitting her marks beautifully for the most part.  She looked great, and her form and follow through are better than most of the male pros.  Leanne did worry me with the pinky tugging thing, looked like she was going to pull it off!  I tuck mine, so I wouldn't know the difference in pinky position, but I use my first finger the most to begin with.  Wow, did I make sense?  Probably not, back to the writing board . . .
