Best pain reliever
« on: December 24, 2007, 02:04:14 AM »
Usually take Advil before a set. Yesterday forgot to take some. My friend happened to have some Aleve. Popped a couple of them with a Diet Pepsi and made it through 9 games and feel pretty good today.

Good old Percocet usually does the trick, but that would be a Prescription Schedule 2 Drug, so if you cant have that, 4 200 mg Ibuprofen (800 mg total) 2 hours prior and 2 Acetaminophen 500mg (1g total) at the start works well for most people.

P.S. Im an RpH (Pharmacist), so I know what I am talking about.

For me it's usually naproxen sodium (Naprosyn).

You're NOt supposed to take aleve and advil with in 48 hours of one another. They react chemically! Wait 48 hours after taking one to take the other.

Take one or the other, NEVER both. Check the pharmacology reports.

For muscle aches I typically use Valerian root.  It stinks real bad but works great for muscle relief, and it can be taken with alcohol.    For headache/fever I typically use acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

I take one 500mg Ibuprofen as prescribed by my Dr. I buy them at our pharmacy for much less than what Excedren, Aleve, and etc. cost. A hundred 500mg Ibuprofen tablets only cost something like $6 give or take a few cents. This hundred tablets is the same two hundred 250mg tablets of Excedren, Aleve, and etc.

I pop 2 Aleve capsules about an hour before league and it does the job, nicely. I have tried naproxen, vioxx, and tylenol for pain, but aleve, for me, works great. If it's a choice between getting scoped again(I have very little cartilage left) or popping some aleve when needed I'll take the aleve. Good luck!

Aleve IS = Naproxen sodium (or Sodium Naproxen).
Just like Advil (the trademark name) = Ibuprofen (the chemical name)

Take the generic stuff, the ingredients are the same, it will save you a lot, and it helps keep me in a job.

Ibuprofen works well for me, at least for the aches and pains I know I'll feel if I bowl a lot. Naproxen Sodium, (Alleve) to some, works well too. Mainly I take the acetaminophen (Tylenol) for fevers and little else.
