Best way to handicap a league IS?
« on: July 18, 2007, 11:47:07 AM »
WANT it to be FAIR...

ie...straight 80% favor's...where-as 100% favor's the low average...

so is 90% the best..or are there other alternative's?

PLEASE no NEGATIVE PIN garbage either...defeat's the purpose of the sport!

4th...have put a team (7 man roster)together...low man at 210...by the way...high ave. for our county is not even 230...much tougher than most!

5th...everybody hate's us...not as people...but the team...jealous.

Shelly, you said
quote:
Then Mike Mineman should never have won. Mike Machuga is light-years ahead in talent, and I'll be damned if you can argue that. They're not even close. If it's about the best winning, then just bowl your 14 games of qualifying and quit. Give it to the high average.

in reply to my comment that the better teams should win more often.  Totally offbase comment.  I said the better team should win more often, which easily means the lesser teams still do win, just not as much.  I never said the better team/player always win.  Mineman was the better bowler that day, and was better than most the PBA players that week.  He didn't need handicap to win, he just executed better.

I'd happily bowl scratch leagues, but there are none in my area.  I know I'll be outclassed by many better bowlers, but that's motivation to get better, and improve my game so I can compete with the best.

I guess if you like 130 average weak bowlers getting 160 pins handicap then go ahead. Otherwise, my system is the best.

Right on Brian...This is what I been telling everyone from the get-go.

Almost all of the people screaming about they need more handicap is lower avg bowlers. Look at some of the profiles of the pro-handicrappers...LOL

I just wish that there was a scratch league local to me!

I would rather pay my money and get beat by someone shooting a scratch 800 on me then to get beat by some handicrapper getting 70 sticks a game...

Actually the people who can take best advantage of handicap are those who are improving their game.  The average of their most recent games goes up faster than their handicap can keep up with.  After 50 games, it takes a lot of pins to raise your average by 1 pin, lowering your handicap by 1-ish pins.  But for someone improving, shooting 10-20 pins over their established average (which includes games from before they had improved) isn't that hard.

It's a shame your defective brain can't understand that.  I mean, it's only math and logic, it has nothing to do with the fact that lower average bowlers don't even deserve to be in the same house as you.

I consulted our house owner and manager on this topic and their take on the situation was oddly enough identical to each other....the owner is a 225+ average male while the manager is a 160 average female.

The only true way of FAIRLY handicapping a league is to go 100% of 300.

I am not in favor of this method but in a way it does make sense.

90% of scratch bowlers in a scratch league complain that all they do is
donate money to the 10% best bowlers in the league all season.  I've seen
many people complaining about "handicrappers" move to a scratch league for
a season, then come running back to the handicap league because all they
do is lose. They toss a 224 game and lose (!!) because that other guy got
lucky and carried a weak-ten.

10% of the best bowlers in a handicap league complain about the other 90%.
Personally, I like bowling in a handicap league because it makes me try
even harder to improve than in a scratch league. I must overcome that 140
average bowler having a great night by trying to bowl extraordinary myself!

I think bowling is 30% enjoyment of the game and 70% complaining about things.

What happens if the 140 avg bowler is throwing a brand new Buzzsaw with the CG kicked out ?
