Bowlers Paradise - Paragon discontinued not shipping!
« on: October 15, 2007, 07:12:33 AM »
Ordered one of the Paragons that Bowlers Paradise put on sale Friday. Finalized the order and paid for it thru paypal. Bank statement reflects the charge out of the bank. Now today I get an email stating that the item cannot be shipped. I called Bowlers Paradise and they told me I would get a refund as the ball had been discontinued. When I ordered there were still balls available. I am glad that I am getting a refund, I also feel that I got the short end of the deal, considering they showed plenty when I ordered. For those of you that just ordered one, I hope you get yours. Also during the conversation, I was asked if I had only ordered one, when I replied yes, the rep told me they were discontinued. I asked why did it show these in stock if they didn't have any...response: They are discontinued! Good luck.

I dont have a beef with not getting a ball, didnt need it anyway and it was destined for the shop wall, but, since orders are handled electronically, I would think and assume that BP's mrp system (inventory control) should have shut off the order taking as soon as the stock of said item was depleted, if you are going to take orders electronically it should be tied to inventory so issues such as this do not arise.  On rare occasions demand will outpace supply, that is understandable, but given the number of paid orders, that are now refused, they do indeed have a problem within the system

In the grand scheme of things, this case is an outlyer.
I wouldnt consider ebusiness in the bowing all market to be a high or even an on-demand market. Supply refeshes to the website from the database every 30 minutes is an acceptable timeframe.

When news broke of this on BR, im sure the people looking to hoard the stock jumped all over this at the same time. I'm sure there are more of you that havent come forward, I know of at least 1 other party that fits into this category.

Was this debacle a result of this type of "point of sale" system? Yes.
Was this debacle at the fault of bowlersparadise.com? Maybe, for lack of foresight.
Was this debacle the result of a few parties going overboard? Yes.

You can still point the finger at the greedy ones.
Thanks again for ruining it for everyone else.

hammermike,

I would think at this point, BP would've rather you bought 1-2 than 20, along with everyone else who bought a case. Why? Because then everyone would have a fair shot at them and BP wouldn't be getting stormed with angry calls and emails? Hmm, make sense, much? I'd say so.

Actually, I don't think BP could give a rat's arse whether 1 person bought them all or if everybody had a "fair" chance to get only 1!  As long as the payment for the ball and shipping goes through, they don't care where the balls end up!

What is your definition of "everyone would have a fair shot at them"?

If somebody hadn't posted the link early, how many of us would've known about "the deal"?  The date on the link is 10-15-07, yet it was posted on 10-11-07.  I didn't get my BP e-mail until 10/15.....and almost all the balls were gone by then!

Again, for like the 4th time, these balls were available for purchase at least as far back as July.  It was even made known that they were Ravage balls made for a Korean OEM.  If they were that freakin great, you should've jumped on them.  Obviously they are only great when they are discounted!

Woot!

My ball is currently in Reno, but I suppose it could be on the move again.  I should have it bright and early Friday morning.  15lb. Archon, order #11261998, taken at 7:50 am CA time.

You bought yours just after me. My number was 11261984. Glad you got one, wished I would have been a little luckier!

I'll tell you one thing, if I knew they were Ravages before I bought mine, I'd have bought a case. You have to be crazy not to want to stock up on such a good discontinued ball for $10.

Tracy, I opted for the Archon due to color.  Had I not spent the added $10 to get the Archon vs. the Paragon I'm sure I'd be sitting in the same boat as you.

Can not agree more. The store that I work at will not let an item be sold that the inventory says we do not even have. So Triggerman is right on the money.

But one angry phone call is better then 8 no matter how you want to look at it.

Wow, gotta bash someone who sees a deal and then goes after it. It's a damn simple concept in economics. SUPPLY, DEMAND, AND THE WILLINGNESS OF A CUSTOMER TO PAY. IT'S CALLED BUSINESS, IT HAPPENS. who the hell is everyone on here to judge. So what if we, mike and myself, had the money to spend on the 8 balls. You gonna call us greedy when you find out that i bought more than 2 cases of circle balls? btw, the 4 tilts that were drilled up amongst my friends are sick! DAMN GLAD I'M GREEDY.

I don't see any issue here besides the fact that there are so many people getting their money refunded rather than getting the ball they wanted.  It is unfortunate that there was a nice deal and not everyone could take advantage of it, but how can you be mad at someone that ordered 3,4, or 10 balls?

The site didn't stop it...they didn't steal, or take advantage of a flawed system knowing it was not right...they simply PAID for the amount of merchandise they wanted.  If they choose to sell what they bought, who's to say that is wrong?

I can understand being dissapointed, but to call people greedy because they ordered or even TRIED to order more than one ball is a joke.  You saw a deal, they saw a deal, you tried to order, they tried to order.....then eventually the site ran out of balls..you get your money back....it's all good.

In the grand scheme of things...is not getting a ball going to ruin your life?
