Bowling hand update - joint/arthritic pain
« on: February 01, 2017, 02:05:58 PM »
For those who know about my arthritic or painful joints on my hands, more on my right... well, I started taking Turmeric supplements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DBTFO98/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485978216&sr=sr-1&keywords=joint+pain

I've been doing this for almost a week. I take two pills twice a day, not what is recommended on the bottle. Well, I am happy to report that this stuff works!!!

I wake up without pain and I have full function of my hand. Not stiff and painful. I could hold the tooth brush in the mornings! During the day at work, I have no pain at all and my flexibility is back. Driving home, my hand don't go numb from holding or shifting the stick.

Yesterday, I took the 8lbs medical sand bag 8" sq., similar to the training aid sold online, and I was able to cup my hand underneath and take a full swing without pain or dropping the sand bag. Prior to taking the supplements, the bag would fall off my hand due to pain as my swing passed my hips. I could not hold on to it unless I took a short swing.

On Sunday, I bowled 6 or 7 games. Then when I got home, I cut shapes using the scissors for my 3 year daughter. In the past, the base of my thumb would be so painful that I can't use the scissors. My hand would be stiff as well.

I just thought I'd pass this on. I know many use OTC medication for inflammation and pain, maybe this supplement would be a better choice.

For the last month, after and during the end of bowling, I've developed some annoying wrist pain. I can also feel it in the top of my hand and when I grip things tightly or flatten my hand out and push to do like a push up. I might have to try this. Also looking into wrapping it with KT tape from now on.

Anyone tried the Storm Neoprene wrist support with any luck? Seems like a simple band so wasn't sure how well it really worked.

I had some increasingly painful wrist pain.
tried multiple braces, ended up having a partial wrist fusion 8 months ago
was back throwing the ball 5 months later, painfully, I might add
The Robbys rev III was a lifesaver  http://www.robbys.com/positioners.php

Took some getting used to for sure, but really no wrist pain as I slowly got my strength and ball speed back.
Took it off about a month ago and havent looked back, still hurts some days, but not anywhere near it was prior to the surgery

I also had this one before and now this is all I wear

I actually put this on about 45-60 before I bowl, and kind of tight
It seems to make my hand swell a little and I deal with thumb fit issues when I get there

I may just been squeezing and not realizing it since this is a recent thing. I'm going to try some thumb tape, untuck my pinky, and try and relax my hand a little more overall and see what happens. Probably picking up the Basic Storm neoprene wrist support as well.

I hope you find a fix without the need for the extreme, surgery.

I had this issue also this past summer. I would experience wrist pain coupled with pain in the top of my hand, all along the fingers. I think it comes from gripping the ball too tightly right before release. I already wear a Masters wrist support, that is tight but also flexes. What alleviated my pain was buying some regular hospital tape, like they tape ankles with, and taping my wrist tightly, to wear underneath my brace, before each bowling set. This has reduced the pain greatly, and I no longer have episodes where I lose strength in my hand and drop the ball!

Thanks for the info! I will have to check out that medical tape to wear under the wrist support. Going to pick up the wrist support from my PSO tonight to try out. He also asked me if I think I've been squeezing a lot lately. I think I really might be.
