BR The Gathering 2008
« on: July 29, 2007, 02:48:24 PM »
Yes you read it right, 2008.  Last night some of us got to talking about dates for next year. Karen mentioned she has to request her vacation time in December, so we made a decision about next year's gathering.

Location: Creekside Lanes - Winston Salem, North Carolina

Unless something drastic happens, we will hold The Gathering July 24 - 27, 2008.   So mark your calendars and prepare to join the best gathering around!  Don't miss out on all the fun - bowling, eating, bowling, eating, bowling sleeping, bowling, and the pattern continues.  Oh and there is a whole lot of socializing, laughing, and did I mention eating and bowling?

I am sure there will also be a little golf, poker and pool for those so inclined.

Just made my reservations at the Extended Stay...Anyone who stays at the hotel just down from Creekside care to share what they pay??  Toma and I were thinking about heading that way this year, but Extended Stay works, too....Also, anyone who likes to golf -- we'll probably be trying to play at least 2 rounds again this year (Last year we played 1 on Wednesday and 2 on Thursday).  More details as the date approaches...

Winter League

Only this year I won't make the mistake of playing 27 right before my PBA experience league.    If you thought I golfed bad...

It's hard to beat Tanglewood during the week.  I think it was under $30 to play all day at two different courses.

Poker, pool, and darts at my house again.  Fresh batch of home brew fermenting as we speak.  My first attempt at a full grain mash.  If all goes well, I'd like to have at least three different styles available.

OK, I am in.
My wife is on the fence.
She is a recreational bowler. She will be happy to bowl a couple games a day, but will need someone to convince her there will be other things for her to do while I am grinding away on the lanes.
Any input?
Any other "better halves" going that are not in it for the bowling?
By the way, we will be looking over the area very closely.
Ohio winters are getting old and we both like NC from a climate standpoint!

Novawagonmaster. There is also golf, might be able to team her up with my wife do some sightseeing and shopping although I am loathe to let my wife out of my site with the credit card

Strider will have some homebrew available at his house along with a pool tourny.

We also quit bowling around 5-6 PM Friday and Saturday and have supper together.  Scotch doubles start around 9 PM Friday nite.  Shortage of women in NC, so its best to have your own partner.

My wife is not a league bowler (no established average).
Will she be able to bowl in the doubles tourney?

Don't worry, we never expect people like you to show up.  Real people who enjoy bowling and life in general show up and are glad to meet others like them.  People who have something to hide always stay home for some reason.  I guess mommy won't let them cross the street on their own.

Just under 6 months to go!

I should be getting an awards voucher from Southwest after this weekends flight to Vegas.  I'll be booking my flight soon.

Uptheboards -

We have been doing this for 5 years and there has never been any violence of any sort.  The people who attend are genuine people who have a passion for the sport and enjoy meeting fellow bowlers.  You will never know what you missed, but that is your loss.

My wife came along last year and had a blast because of the people we met (whereas I have fun in any bowling alley).  Mind you, she was a 103-averaged bowler before the gathering last year.  Since then, she's enjoyed bowling more and her average is now approaching 120.

It's the people that are her draw.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.

Made it two years ago, missed it last year, hopefully will be there this year along with my wife. We're going to make a vacation out of it.

We've made our hotel reservations and had our vacation time approved, so we'll be there.  It'll be great to see everybody again.  And I wonder what strange equipment Jess will be bringing this time.

Planning to visit my sister in South Carolina sometime this year. I am in the Uk but it looks like it might be a good time to cross the pond.

The return of the 11-inch pin Paradigm, baby! (g)

I'm also bringing an overseas Columbia Ricochet Revenge (really beautiful-looking ball), plus my old long-pin AMF XS.

I'll be drilling my own stuff by then and I might be able to find something I can slap a weird drill on just for kicks.

First full grain pale ale came out great.  Oatmeal stout is in the primary now.  I hope to have at least two more styles ready by the Gathering.  Maybe a brown ale and some kind of strong Belgian, for those wanting to try some home brew.  I'll have some rot gut American mega brew on hand for the timid.  Small entry (probably $20) Texas Hold Em will happen for the 3rd year.  Bring your pool sticks if you have them.

Hopefully my finger won't swell like crazy again this year.  For some reason, I've some odd minor injury several years now.  Maybe I'll rent out the services of my Magic Dishwasher (Ron Clifton certified).  Maybe I'll get lucky and score another ball from Jesse this year.    Anyway, looking forward to seeing some old friends and making some new ones.  Hopefully SrK will be able to make it this year.  Gatherings wouldn't be the same without him or the Thonged one.

My wife and I will be rolling into town early afternoon on Thursday.
I look forward to meeting all of you and spending some quality time on the lanes
