Brunswick Finalizes Sale of Bowling Division
« on: May 26, 2015, 12:15:00 PM »
Brunswick Corp. announced today, May 26, that it completed the sale of its bowling products business to BlueArc Capital Management LLC, a private investment firm based in Atlanta.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We are pleased that the buyer is a long-term investor and that the Brunswick name and all that it stands for will carry on and continue to set the standard in the bowling industry,” Brunswick chairman and CEO Dustan E. McCoy said in a statement. In 2014, Brunswick completed the sale of its retail bowling centers to Bowlmor AMF and now reports the historical results of both the bowling retail and products businesses as discontinued operations. Brunswick anticipates net proceeds from both of these sales actions, which reflect current estimates of taxes and liabilities yet to be paid, to be in the range of $270 million to $290 million that was provided in the company’s original projections. Brunswick’s capital strategy prioritizes growth investments and acquisitions in the marine and fitness segments, maintaining a strong balance sheet and returning cash to shareholders, McCoy reiterated.

wasn't a huge fan of theirs but typically am even LESS of a fan when the new ownership of a company has the words Capital and Management followed by the LLC acronym.  It just rarely ends well...and in a case like this, expect it to land in the hands of someone that could make AMF seem like a competent company that cares about the sport...

I'm inclined to believe there will be further divesture of Brunswick bowling products. When a capital management company's in the picture, it's all about how fast they can turn a greater profit before moving on to another disaster they've created.
Ball speed avg. (18.25 mph)
Rev rate avg. (400-428 rpm)
Still refusing to accept AARP eligibility and membership cards

Maybe they'll bring the manufacturing back to the states.  Could boost their sales & set them back up to be sold for a profit vs. a loss... :)

I have never seen a company come out of an investment company purchase and ever be the same again. I went through it with Chrysler and I've seen it other places.

This is NOT good for bowling and is very bad for Brunswick. This investment company will suck all of the cash it can out of the company and limit the company's spending to the point that innovation will dry up. Then they will sell it in pieces. The bowling ball division will probably get shut down in less than 5 years. It's likely the least profitable.
Balls: Motiv Forza GT, Motiv Primal Rage Remix, Motiv Ascent Pearl and Motiv (On The Ball) spare ball.. All made in the USA.

The Brunswick fans say otherwise!!!!

Its a shame something like storm/900 global didn't happen.  I feel 900 global is stronger now, is it not?

Sounds like pure speculation to me.
Brunswick's product side is profitable, Chrysler was facing bankruptcy.
If anything the company should have more flexibility now being the focus of an investor group as opposed to being a small piece of a larger corporation responsible to shareholders.

Not a fan of mergers and divestitures either, but the fact that the bowling division was already the poor step child in the corporation suggests that it might not be any worse.

The vibe in the meeting rooms were upbeat and positive during the new ownership presentations and meet n greet. Like CEO Brent Perrier said in his recent interview with above180.com, Brunswick Corp was fussy about who they were going to sell the business to. Since the new company would be called Brunswick Bowling Products, they wanted to make sure the name would carry on the great history of the past.

I actually can't wait to start work in the offices in Muskegon. I think between BG, Billy O, Mouw, Tabron and myself we can do some fantastic things with the brands. It's the biggest move of my life going from CA to MI, but I knew someday I would end up there. Love this job, love this company.
