Brunswick Finalizes Sale of Bowling Division
« on: May 26, 2015, 12:15:00 PM »
Brunswick Corp. announced today, May 26, that it completed the sale of its bowling products business to BlueArc Capital Management LLC, a private investment firm based in Atlanta.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We are pleased that the buyer is a long-term investor and that the Brunswick name and all that it stands for will carry on and continue to set the standard in the bowling industry,” Brunswick chairman and CEO Dustan E. McCoy said in a statement. In 2014, Brunswick completed the sale of its retail bowling centers to Bowlmor AMF and now reports the historical results of both the bowling retail and products businesses as discontinued operations. Brunswick anticipates net proceeds from both of these sales actions, which reflect current estimates of taxes and liabilities yet to be paid, to be in the range of $270 million to $290 million that was provided in the company’s original projections. Brunswick’s capital strategy prioritizes growth investments and acquisitions in the marine and fitness segments, maintaining a strong balance sheet and returning cash to shareholders, McCoy reiterated.

If they would stop with the personal insults, we'd probably get somewhere. But I guess when you have no justification, slandering is all that you're left with.

With your comments about "second rate equipment"," being discontinued in two months" and "Juan, Roberto, and Guatalope making the equipment instead of Bill, Tom, and Jane" I can see how you seem to think you are taking the hyroad in the conversation. Good luck with that.

The comments about the equipment aren't personal, are they?  And the names were to provide reference to where the balls are made. I can use "Nigel, Thurman, and Elizabeth" and call them British, but they didn't move to England. The move is only justified by those who use the equipment.

Why does it have to be justified? I could give a F$#K less why they moved, or where as long as the product is good and I can use it. Have been since 96 and still love it. Using the move as a reason to say the company is bad or make up other issues is your excuse.

As stated before not everyone echos your sentiment about where something is made. It is great you have the stand on bowling balls as long as we dont refer to your made in china spare ball. As a Brunswick fan with continued success using their equipment your continued attempts to say because they moved the product is second rate to others ect is your view but it doesnt make it true.

A reliable source disagrees with your statements. Due to anonymity, I won't reveal much. But their quality has dipped since the Michigan days and he says the products (cheap) used are the culprit.

Maybe it has.  I cant tell a difference.  I can say there is a lot of stuff I do really like from them.

There is currently no other brand ive seen used in person id consider jumping ship for.  Ive tried several over the years,  im a ball whore,  I dont mind it. I still spend my money,  nothing free,  on Brunswick because I like it that much.

If I didnt,  id be looking else where no doubt. If at any point I see a decrease in value I will be looking else where.  That was my biggest concern with the sell of the brand. Im loyal,  but not going to be a charity to any company if I dont think they are worth my business.

Geez, I go to work and this thing keeps on going...

Yes, I've been a staunch supporter of Brunswick since 2005.  They've been great to the customers of the pro shop (where I help) whenever there's been an issue.  To me personally, they've exceeded any expectations I may have had going in.   Someday they may not need me in my current position and I'll honestly be able to say thanks, it's been a great ride.

I can't control whether or not, or why, the company moved production to Mexico.  All I can say is that their product is at least as good as anything on the market, as far as quality goes.  I'm still waiting for another manufacturer to match the two year warranty on every DV8 ball.  Is there one?  Have I missed it?   Bowlers have to buy what matches up for them and their game.  Some are brand loyal, while others pick and choose.  Either way it's fine.

Living here in Utah you can guess that the Storm brand is dominant.  That's okay.  They make a very good product, and I have LOTS of people who bring their (Storm) bowling balls to me for maintenance and fine tuning of reaction.  I have friends who work for Storm, as well as friends on their staff.  Everything doesn't have to be an adversarial relationship with only "black or white" being correct.

Although we (on this site) may not see exactly eye-to-eye on everything that's okay.  It doesn't make you or me bad, JUST DIFFERENT.  We probably love to bowl and hope the industry can reverse the trend of losing bowlers every year, and so on...

You should use what equipment works for you, and I'll use what's been good for me.  Every so often I won't match up well with a given Brunswick ball, but that doesn't make it a bad ball for everyone.

On this forum I try to say what's on my mind at the time.  Sometimes I hear some very good views later that sway me away from my original path, and other times not so much.  It's also natural to "defend" our views, but if we take a step back and realize others will have their views, for whatever reason, and just accept the differences in opinion.  Rarely are any of us going to change someone's mind here. But just because we may disagree (on this topic) it doesn't mean either side is even wrong, just different.

Hammer 3 year?  That's great.  There's not too much demand here for them so I haven't noticed.  Thanks.

I help in the shop when I have time.  I used to spend lots of time there, but managing a bowl center is at least a full time job.  Are any other companies extending the warranty past one year?

It's nice of them to follow the lead of the "substandard" bowling company... ;)

The warranty claim is a gimmick to sale bowls. It doesn't affect the performance, obviously. Did you miss the thread about "no love for DV8 anymore?" Outside of the LT48, B is hasn't made much noise and aside for the Guru, Radical has been stagnant. I get you're a fan boy staffer. But the company has reached the bottom, thus the sale.

I'm sure Hammer appreciates your calling their warranty a gimmick.  I suspect that they plan to honor their "gimmick" should the need arise.

Call me a fan boy staffer if you want.  Aren't you the one who was complaining about the so-called personal insults earlier?  It's okay, I'll take it as a compliment even if it was meant otherwise.

They help move bowling balls. How many people keep a ball for 3 years? The vast majority keep their equipment for a season and move on to the next ball(s). So the consumer feels protected, meanwhile they will never use said warranty. I am surprised that you do not know all of these things being in the business.

You surely meant "sell balls" but for the guy who knows EVERYTHING, did you miss school the day they taught English? ;)  We'll call it a "two word typo". ;)

tkkshop,  I don't claim to know everything.  The longer I live, the less I realize that I know.  Bowling is relatively simple compared to life.  You hide behind a screen name.  I don't.  You're anonymous.  That's the sad nature of forums these days.  Any guy can be an expert when he isn't held accountable.

I do wish you well though.  If you own a pro shop then I hope your sales are sufficient to keep you in business for years to come.  Pro shops have a it tough with some pretty tight profit margins nowadays.  Good luck to you.

I never claimed to know everything. I fat figured 1 word and mind farted another. It happens. And the pro shop is more than paying the bills. You just have to know what to stock.
