Burnt mids

Anyone have any suggestions for a ball to get clean through the burnt mids. I was bowling a 8 game sweeper this weekend where I lead qualifying games 1-7 game 8 hit and thankfully I built such a large lead that even with a terrible game I qualified 2nd for our step ladder. The last game, my semifinal step ladder match, and finals match my weakest/cleanest of covers was starting to get into an early roll at about 25 feet. I threw plastic in the last half of game 8 and on. Just curious if anyone had any suggestions

There are probably a few balls that will fit in this notch, but unless we know which is your weakest ball and its surface, we have no reference point as to what the actual oil was and the ball that wouldn't make it through.

In addition to what Jeff said, you might also want to look into drillings that allow for length AND less flare.

 Many times, even with today's "weak" covers, you can get balls that over read the drier parts of the lane due to the flare pattern putting fresh, oil-free coverstock in contact with the dry lane surfaces.  I have a pearl misfit that will not hook on oil, but let it get drier, and it will hook with anything out there, even though it is supposed to be a "light oil" ball.

 If you have an older ball laying around that doesn't get used much, might want to experiment with a lower flaring pattern on that to see what effect it has for you.

 Works great for me. For me, controlling the flare is the key.

went through this very same issue a few days ago in a tournament
even though i have what i fell is enough equipment to overcome this condition
i was able to un-tuck my pinky finger and apply more pressure to my middle finger to get it to skid better in the mids

It was enough help to overcome the condition for the most part
you definitely want a couple balls with longer pins and shiny surface ( IMO)

Shiny pin up layouts, I would also add to increase your speed a bit and add more sideroll to help the ball skid farther. Altering your hand at release, for me at least, is a good way to adjust to drier lanes.

As for what my weakest/ cleanest is it's a columbia freeze hybrid out of box with a pin axis layout. I know adding polish to a ball will get it to get through but at the same time with my rev rate and axis rotation its a bad combo with that type of surface. I was bowling on abbey road. And I was averaging nearly 226 all day until game 8. I wonder if maybe I needed a plastic ball with a core? I was able to stay ahead of the transition all day but game 8 and the two step ladder games caught me by surprise

It wasn't really oily to begin with as I threw my arson low flare literally all day except for the last game I threw my freeze for the first half then I switched to plastic

Even though pin on axis is a low flaring drilling, it is also an early rolling drilling and the Freeze is not especially a weak ball, although it's one of Columbia's weaker balls.

There are several balls which have very weak cores and generally weaker coverstocks. Some candidates are Brunswick Strike King, Storm Tropical Breeze, Motiv Ascent Pearl (Red/Black and Green/Purple), Roto-Grip Scream, DV8 Red-Orange Misfit, & Track 300A.

Might want to look at the Track Spare+. Plastic cover wrapped around a mildish core. Sounds like you would get some use out of it.

Let's say I chose the ascent pearl. What kind of layout are we talking about? I have a rev rate of 481 axis rotation 60* axis tilt 15* ball speed 19-20 off my hand about 17.5 at the pin deck PAP 4 7/8 over 3/4 up.

Since I love this ball on the burn, I'd have to say Desert Hook. Long pin to pap, no hole. I have mine drilled somewhat strong, and I still have to stand in the dirt.

If love that ball on the burn too if I could find a similar ball with numbers like that lol 2.6 rg with .026 diff... Idk if I can find a ball like that anywhere

Taboo spare ball is really good on the burn
Had to scuff mine to get rid of the over under it had at times
