Celebrity Bowlers
« on: September 10, 2003, 06:48:55 AM »
I have noticed in the last 3 or 4 telecasts of the IRL races that they seem to make a point of Sam Hornish jr. (2 time IRL Champion) being an avid bowler.  They even went so far as to mention he carries a 170 avg. in his Wed. night league.  Thought it was pretty cool that they even mentioned it once, but they have brought it up several times when profiling him.  It got me to think, how many other celebrities or non-bowling professional athletes openly claim that they too enjoy our game?

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart likes to bowl. He even sponsored a team and gave them all racing shirts. He is pretty busy so he don't have time to bowl a lot.
I am surprised an IRL driver would have time to bowl a league.

Danny Jackson, who pitched for the Royals, Cardinals, and other teams(appeared in the Series w/ the Royals, reds, and I believe Phillies(??)) was and still is an excellent bowler(carries 210+ average)- in fact, he built and still owns Incred-A-Bowl in Overland Park, KS

Mitch Williams(victim of Joe Carter's homer in the '93 Series) is also good, and operates a restaurant in a bowling center somewhere on the East Coast, last I heard.

Cecil Fielder, Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek, Bobby Bonillia, and Jose Canseco were also avid bowlers.

Bettis is a over 200 average guy in leagues and John Burkett does an occasional PBA regional. He is a close friend of Tommy Delutz.
