Christmas Tree Pattern
« on: September 13, 2003, 01:34:06 AM »
Hey all....

Been confirmed that my mens league house is laying out a Christmas tree pattern and honestly, I've never played one before, ......my scores are showing it, however.......

It is supposedly a fresh pattern, but it almost plays really light to dry sometimes.  Is this because of where I like to play (down and in) or something else...maybe it's the type of oil they're using..(heard they were experimenting with potentially 'offense' oil.

Huge, screaming backends by the way!  Supposedly, the pattern in a 40ft tree, buffed,...I'm assuming it's buffed to 40 ft. with the backends we have.

Inside is nice for about a game and a 1/2, then the shot just dissapears and you start sliding by....(kind of a 'push-out' carrydown)...

Any tips on playing a tree ? Is it better to start deep, then move right as the right side of the tree deteriorates ?

Why does it seem like I have to HEAVE it to get the ball thru the heads on my first few shots ??  Probably the pattern...yes? It's drier outside at the arrows if it's a tree, yes ??

Any and all comments and suggestions welcome.............thanks !!

You got the right idea. If you will go through the pictures I have posted in the "Breakpoints" series of tips I think you will get the idea. IF the ball starts sliding by then by all means start working your way right.
As for you having to HEAVE the ball to start with, I am guessing that you are just seeing the reaction from the strong back ends. Don't heave the ball to try and keep it on line just let it hook. Move as deep as you have to. With that much friction the ball should burn up pretty good, so just try and get it to burn up a good bit before it gets back to the head pin. That will give you a little forgiveness.

Read the "finger dancing" tip and keep your index and little finger spread to start with. Then start to close the little finger as the oil carries down.

Thanks Ron!! Will do......

The 'heaving' feeling is from the heads...they seem real dry..I don't get that feeling because of the backends, it's the heads that seem dry that make me want to 'chuck' it. But I think it's because of the pattern shape......

I'll just start much deeper first game, then move right....and..."read breakpoints!!"

Thanks Ron!
