Closed eye method update
« on: November 08, 2003, 02:12:25 PM »
A few days ago I posted a topic about using the closed eye method to help pull out of a slump. I also said that I would use this method on our scratch league sport shot and post the results, so here it is.

First, some background information. we bowled on a longer oil pattern, 42'with 26 to 50 units of oil gutter to gutter. The lanes are wood with lane shield overlay, pins are old wood averaging 3# 8oz. The pair we bowled on were the end pair located against an outside wall. The outside temp. was 26 degrees F, 52% inside humidity.

The mean average of  the 6 bowlers on this pair(four right handed, two left handed) was 172.3 for four games. My individual average was 172.5. The high series was 734. What do you think, is this method worth developing as another tool in a bowlers arsenal?

Last night, i tryed bowling with only my dominant eye open, and it works pretty damn good for me. I was more consistent.

The purpose of the post was two fold. First to try to get more bowlers to think outside the HOOK IN THE BOX in order to take their game to the next level. Second, just to point out that sometimes it`s good to try something thats a little different.

LEFTSIDE is correct, this is a good practice method and I'm not recommending this for competition, for me it was an experiment that I thought was worth sharing with others.

I've fooled around with closing the eye. Made everybody think I was nuts, which I probably am, but I'm the kind of guy who likes to try experiments and new ideas.

I don't think it really helped me all that much, but I did entertain some of the folks I was bowling with. Get your feet lined up right and walk to the same place every time and I think you will have a lot more luck with repeating shots then with closing your eyes.
