Clean Balls
« on: February 03, 2009, 02:14:24 AM »
I regularly soak my balls each week in the sink with dish detergent.   I use just hot water and let my balls soak for a bit until the pores open up and the oil comes to the surface and wipe it clean with a soapy sponge.

This weekend instead of using dish detergent I used Simple Green and then wiped the ball the same way I would previous with the soapy sponge, but with a Simple Green sponge.

I then bowled last night and was getting a crazy reaction. Through the nose on the first half of my shots.  Picked up the 6-7 back to back, unfortunately the 4 pin didn't fall on the big four when it was there.

ANYWAYS

Is it possible to get your balls to clean?  How much difference does simple green and water make from just using soap and water?

Thanks

first off I don't soak that often but I do soak with some simple green and water and use simple green to clean after every outing.
             That being said,
I've noticed with my aggressive equipment that I will get a better reaction once some oil is worked in the cover, mainly my LevRg.on my polished stuff I don't notice a difference.

Simple Green leaves a  coating, even after you apparently wipe it clean. YOu need to remove it with something like a strong alcohol before using the ball to bowl. Not sure if that coating was responsible or not. I just know it's there. Remove it. Use will probably remove it also, but the games used to remove it may have an unusual ball reaction.

Good thing this is a bowling site and we know what you are talking about.

Any where else, this statement would be met with some strange questions?

I found, after thorough oil extraction in the bucket with some degreaser detergent, that some balls need some games and oil absoption to get back to a controllable reaction. I also wondered if you can get a ball "too" clean?

Some ball companies say, do not use any soap,  just soak the balls in hot water.

Or use Oil Dry.
