Cost of shipping a ball VIA UPS
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:31:50 AM »
Many different opinions have been expressed under my topic, in which was under wanted/sell heading not the shipping heading.

I agree with some of the posts saying some people are charging to much.  I feel I am more then fair with my auction.  If you want me to use Fedex or USPS, I will probably charge more, I have to drive ALOT further then the UPS store.  I also have to pay for boxes, tape, my time and gas, these are all factors in any business that drive prices up.  Not all of us live next to all different shipping options.

I bid on auctions with a set amount I am willing to pay including shipping, so it does not matter to me if somebody wants to bid more then me.

I am not saying I am right I am just telling you this is the way I do my business.

I have only a UPS store near where I moved to. I used to have a Fedex account and used them for all my shipping whether it be balls or ebay. I shipped a ball from Indiana to Washington state and with my box and packing the shipping came to $18.55. I asked them if there was any other charges on the ball and they said no.

My closest Fedex hub is about 50-65 miles away and I am sure they wont do pick up here out in the country.

My opinion is why not charge a little for gas, box, tape and the time it takes to drive to a shipping place to sell something? I dont mean $5, but 1-2 is not gouging someone.

This matter of shipping/handling being a rip-off is RIDICULOUS. Sellers have no idea where in the US they will have to ship to and to protect ourselves we have to price the shipping on the higher end to avoid losing money. I challenge any of you to use the link above....use my zip code 33993 and ship to the greater Seattle area, using zip code 98055. Use 16 lbs for weight and 8x8x8 for size. You will get a price for SHIPPING ONLY of $22.05. Now, I've got to buy a box for $2.50 and if I charge for NOTHING else it has cost me $24.55. Why should I charge $19.95 max for shipping and possibly be out $4 or $5?

If you live in one of the corners of the country shipping to other corners can be VERY EXPENSIVE. If you choose not to bid on one of my auctions because of shipping price that is your prerogative, just please stop with the nonsense that asking a flat fee above $19.95 is a rip-off. I just showed you why it is not.

Now if you want to argue the point that flat rate shipping shouldn't be allowed and that all auctions should use actual shipping with an allowable handling fee you could probably get me to agree with you. But, currently, it's just easier to have a flat rate.
