Cost of shipping a ball VIA UPS
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:31:50 AM »
Many different opinions have been expressed under my topic, in which was under wanted/sell heading not the shipping heading.

I agree with some of the posts saying some people are charging to much.  I feel I am more then fair with my auction.  If you want me to use Fedex or USPS, I will probably charge more, I have to drive ALOT further then the UPS store.  I also have to pay for boxes, tape, my time and gas, these are all factors in any business that drive prices up.  Not all of us live next to all different shipping options.

I bid on auctions with a set amount I am willing to pay including shipping, so it does not matter to me if somebody wants to bid more then me.

I am not saying I am right I am just telling you this is the way I do my business.

If you wish to charge more in an auction for your time, gas, boxes, tape, etc... you need to state that in your auction. You cannot just say ok shipping is $27.00 and go from there. That is just insane. If you wish to say shipping will be a flat say $19.95 and in the description put that you will be charging an extra amount for handling fees that is one thing. But some of these shipping are crazy!

I personally use DHL, I have never had a problem with them, never anything damaged and everything on time! UPS I have always had problems with damages, they treat it like things are plastic! Fedex isn't bad, but I still prefer DHL!

IMO, its not right to charge high shipping prices to pay for your gas, tape boxes and all the other crap you listed. Shippings costs are for shipping NOT all that other stuff. Those other things are just part of doing business, sorry..

If you expect the buyers to pay for all that, state that in your auction..

If you get a UPS or Fed ex account, shipping is cheaper and they might even pick up the items at your house..

IT does matter to me on how much I pay for shipping, regardless how much I pay for the item. IMO, its not right so I don't bid on auctions with shipping over $19.95 per ball and to me thats a rip off..

I just posted this in the other thread. I do have a DHL account. These prices are without the account I have

I live in Las Vegas, I can send a bowling ball to all 4 corners as follows:

Seattle - 10.26
New Jersey - 16.19
Miami - 12.26
San Diego - 9.24

So Please tell me how from Illinois to Las vegas it is $22.00

For me to ship to Illinois it is: $14.32

These prices aren't even with my account pricing with DHL!!

When I put my shipping charges on an auction I average all those prices and get one. I do add $2 additional dollars for a box, tape, and filler in the box. You can ask anyone I have done a deal with or anyone of my feedback people, they have yet to complain about my shipping!

Many companies do include this cost...have you ever heard of the term shipping and handling? I mean no disrespect, and I think people should include a breakdown of fees to their bidders, but I think it's rediculous to not bid on something because the shipping is a few bucks to high.

I have seen some people try to sell their items for a penny on buy it now and include an outrageous shipping cost...THAT I can understand.

what do you people not understand about HANDLING?   SHIPPING & HANDLING...  means not exactly to the penny what the seller pays ups or the post office, but the extra costs that were inflicted during the sale of the item you want to purchase. $25 to ship a ball is perfectly justifiable

HANDLING,HANDLING,HANDLING,HANDLING,HANDLING,HANDLING,HANDLING,HANDLING,

let me rephrase that...  $25 to ship a ball on ebay is justifiable. to ship one on here without listing fees, paypal fees, final value fees...  no more than $19

I find it funny that my auction got singled out when I am not even close to the most expensive shipping price.  I do not have an account and I charge $22 and get singled out, when Bowlingball has an account (with a good discount I am sure) and ships right out the back door.  HMMMM, I know I am wrong, I should just ship it for free.

My shipping charges are not changing, I feel they are more then fair.

I remember paying $12 for shipping for an item I bought on Ebay, I received the package by USPS with a label that said $3.96.  Oh well I was willing to win the auction so I paid it.  It is not just bowling balls, some shipping charges on Ebay are unreal, my charge shouldn't even be mentioned compared to the others.

George,

I understand your thinking and see nothing wrong with it. Adding the $2 is alos Ok as that is understandable but some of these ebay sellers are making 50% more than the actual cost of shipping. Thats stealing IMO..

I just quit bidding on auctions with ridiculous shipping prices. I don't care how good of deal the item is..

JK, I totally agree. To charge $10, $12, $20 more than what shipping prices are is crazy to me! That is just stealing. I know a few people that have been banned from eBay for doing that too.

To the people about handling fees. I explained it in a post already. I have no problems with you showing your handling fees and how much you are charging. But explain it in your description somewhere! It doesn't take that long to say I am charging $6 for handling, which includes the price for box, filler, tape, etc..!! But for me to pay someone $15 more for their gas to get there is stupid! Why do I have to pay for your gas as well!

By the way for anyone that does ship anything, you can schedule a pick up at your house and it doens't cost you a DIME!! or for that fact a PENNY! So don't tell me about your gas!

All,

these are just my opinions and thats it.. Its everyones option to bid or not bid on an auction..

I am not paying a handling fee for someone to ship a bowling ball or bag or shoes for that matter.. Come on, seriously how hard is it to put a bowling ball in a box and tape it up? Same with shoes or a bag. Its not that difficult or time consuming. I have shipped alot of stuff on here the past 3 years and ebay the past 10 years and 99% of the time I charge ACTUAL shipping with NO other BS fees other than if they pay with paypal, I then ask, but do not make mandatory, some help with the paypal fees. If the buyers helps me out fine, if not, no big deal. I will eat those fees..

I guess everyone has there own way of doing business.. I don't do this to make money. I normally always lose money or break even selling bowling equipment..

Use, I understand your high shipping prices, you deal with the Post Office!! That is insane! They are easily $8-$15 higher at times than UPS, DHL, Fedex, etc..!! Just crazy! Even $5 is to much for handling. What does a box cost you $2.50 at MOST!? Tape umm.. mere pennies? And packing maybe another $1.. and you are charging $5 for what?!?!

Use, I just went on and saw from Yreka (96097) to Henderson, NV (89014) shipping is $18.55 for priority and $11.89 for parcel post! So you are already getting $8 more for shipping and then you want to charge another $5.. you make $13 on shipping to me?!?!!??!?!?!?!
