I have a friend that just purchased a usa gold with a 1.5 two inch pin. He has speed bout 16-17 above avg revs. He was curious if u were to drill this ball to go long and break late to try to get the max backend out of it would the ball smooth out or give a lot of hook throughout or what and also what drilling would u suggest to use to get max backend hook out of a ball with that type of pin. Also he can not use any drill with pin under fingers or tracks over the thumb hope to get many opinions.

I'm unfamiliar with the ball so I don't know about its construction or coverstock. I'll assume it is 2-piece and resin/particle.

Any drill to go long and hook, is a skid/flip drill. So the ball will not hook evenly through out the lane.

To get the length you are talking about you need to drill over the label and probably have the pin at 1:00. To get the pin above the fingers you will most likely have too much finger weight without a balance hole.

Without his PAP it is just a guess, so I would go 4 x 5 and try to end up with static weights around 3/4 finger and 3/4 positive side.

Remember all the drill can do is enhance the ball path. The lane, lane conditioner volumes, oil pattern, coverstock, and the bowler have more influence on the ball path than the drilling does.
