Crimson Executioner
« on: August 28, 2003, 10:44:21 PM »
Fellow members:

I just got a Crimson drilled up the other day.  I have a Green Gargoyle that I have had for 2 years now.  I told the pro shop operator that I wanted the same layout since I wanted the Ex to move earlier than the Gargoyle.  I go to him the next day, and he has the pin below the ring finger about an inch and the cg kicked right a hair.  This ball (a) is nothing like the drilling in my Gargoyle and (b) is so much longer than my Gargoyle is squirts in the oil really bad.  He told me putting the pin below the fingers would get the ball started sooner without worrying about the ball rolling out.  I am right handed.  I rolled my Gargoyle, layed out pin at 1:30 about an inch from the ring finger and the cg kicked right, 15 to 5 and smashed the hole all day long.  I pull out the Ex on the same shot same line...dead flush in the 3-6.  Can anyone tell me what is wrong here?

I to had thrown a Green Gargoyle then a Crimsom Ex..and noticed the ball wasnt half the ball as the Green Garg...I dont know why..but the Crimsom Ex is a weaker ball...period.

Not sure about the top weights.  I know the Ex is 2.72 and both are pins 2-3.

I don't have a Green Gargoyle.........YET, but I feel compelled to speak on behalf of the Crimson Executioner.  I also have a 2-3" pin out but I forgot what the top weight was.  It is drilled 5x4 (pin over ring CG kicked out) MB basically in the VAL.

This ball will go long by nature but at least for me it has a pretty strong backend.  Whether or not the oil is medium or lighter the ball has no trouble getting down the lane.  Once it hits the drier backends it will make a very hard arc to the pocket.  If the backends aren't really moving then I can move outside and reduce my speed to make the Crimson finish up.  It is very difficult for me to use this ball on anything less a light medium oil because the core's early roll forces the ball left too soon.  I have yet to really face a condition where the I couldn't adjust to score on.

Although.....it could be possible that since both cores are like night and day, a pattern that maximizes the MB potential in the Ex core should be more helpful.  It may have been better to set the Crimson up for earlier roll than having the MB next to the thumb since the cover is 1500 grit polished pearl and will generate it's own natural length.

I know that the GG has a bigger backend than the CE, because the
EX series is supposed to have an earlier roll.

Also if it is long oil or an oilier pattern there will not be
as much recovery because of this.

Does you GG have a track worn in it?

I had both balls. Both use the same cover but different cores. This cover will skid for 3 or 4 days on any oil. For me, the ball had to find serious dry before it would make the turn. I had both drilled 4x4 and a GG drilled 7x5; I also modified the cover on my Crimson several times.  Both are oil allergic, both are worthless (for me) on any carrydown, BUUUT when they do make the turn, absolutely nothing hits harder.

I would drill these balls strong; I would even drill them 10:30, but I would make sure there is no carrydown nor any spottiness. These are for when the shot is wide open.

Here is the problem.  On the same pattern, standard crown 38 feet, the Gargoyle rolled up much sooner than the Ex did.  It should be the other way around.  Yes, the Garg has a track in it even though I clean and polish after every 6 games.  But, I threw both balls one after the other 2 years ago, and the Ex was much more aggressive and earlier than the Garg.  My Garg goes around the 40-45 foot mark and makes a hard, but controllable turn.  The Ex, in the past, would start rolling at the 35-40 foot mark and never stopped turning.  The Ex I am throwing now, goes 50 feet before making any attempt to turn.  Why is there such a big difference between now and then with a drilling that was more for early roll this time whereas 2 years ago, it was drilled more for length?
