With the winter upon us it brings up the question of bowlers who leave their bowling balls in their trunk rather than dragging them on the train and to the office, myself included. We can all agree that leaving your bowling equipment in your car trunk during the winter months is bad and can lead to the shell cracking or the core separating. While seeing the shell cracked is pretty straightforward, how would one know if their bowling ball suffered a core separation? Are the signs obvious, if so what would they be?

If you wear a ring you can tap on the ball with it. If the sound changes as you tap on the ball you have separation. But you have to tap in more than one place on the ball.

Cold bowling balls hook less. Seperated cores will have a different sound when hitting the pins sometimes. We would just drop it a short distance onto the floor and if sounds less solid and more like a cracked pin in the rack.

I used to throw on old heavy blanket over my bowling bags when left in the car. It seemed to help keep them warm.

Uh......a blanket works by retaining the heat a warm body emits.
