Demo Days Help
« on: November 05, 2003, 04:52:13 PM »
Ok here is my question.  I am signed up for an ebonite demo days coming up shortly.  I would love any and all suggestions for making the most of the experience from all of you out there.  If you have been to one what did you do that made the experience good?  If you had the chance to go again what would you do differently?  If you haven't gone yet what would be the things you would absolutely make sure you did to make the most of it?  What are the things to definitely avoid?

just hope they remember to show up. We had one scheduled at our center 2 falls ago, and they "forgot" about it. We had 30-40 very upset people.

Make sure you take your equipment with you and bowl with it first to see how it reacts, so you can make a good comparison with the demo balls.  Research all of the balls that will be there before you show up so you have an idea of what they should do.  If you can get your center to lay down different oil patterns, that would help greatly as well.  Try to go with a friend, too, that always makes it more fun.

Andy:

I’ve been to several.  One thing you’ll notice is every ball has the same drilling.  This will help you see the difference in ball reactions due to core and cover.  Our local house puts out different oil patterns so you can see the problems that arise using the wrong ball on the condition.  Normally we have two pair dry, two pair medium, two pair heavy.  We also run two pair with the normal house shot in case someone is looking for a league ball.

The balls they bring in may not have a span that is exact for you.  It may be hard to get the right feel out of the ball.  IE, pitches, spans, etc.  Usually you can put enough tape in though to get close.

Prices vary but usually run around $20 for the event.  Ebonite gives good discounts if you purchase something during the event.

Since time is limited, do your research first and narrow your selections down.  Depending on how many people show up and the length of the session, you may only get to try out 4-5 balls due to the wait getting the balls set up.

Thanks for the help everyone.  Sounds like they are doing flights of five people every 45 minutes.  I can't wait.  My wife is already starting to threaten me though so maybe it won't be that fun.  LOL
