I have somewhere around 30 bowling balls to sell that I've accumulated over the years.  Problem is, I don't know what weight they are.

What's the easiest way to distinguish a ball's weight?  I don't want to bring all these balls up to the local pro shop and ask "can you weigh these for me?"  I talked to someone in the pro shop and he said that'd be the best way to do it, because distinguishing from 15 to 16 pounds is pretty hard.

Anyone got a good way to do it?

Also, what's the best way to ship a bowling ball?  Would a bowling ball box stuffed with newspaper, wrapped in postal paper, work alright?

Yeah.. if you have a moderately accurate home scale, take the difference between your weight and your weight while holding the ball.  It may not be exact, but should be able to tell between 14lb, 15lb, and 16lb.  Also get a flexible ruler so you can measure the spans fairly accurately.

My first choice for packaging a ball for shipment is to put the ball inside of a plastic bag (either the one originally inside the box or even a plastic grocery bag will work) and put in a ball box.  If you can put some newspaper or foam peanuts or something to keep the ball from shifting, thats a bonus, but not necessary.  Ideally, you would put this box inside a second heavy carboard box.  Since those are hard to come by at times (I usually only have them if I buy a ball online and it arrives double boxed), I find it works alright to put the box inside of another ball box and close the top the best you can with packing tape.  I think double boxing is the best way to assure safe arrival.

I use ball boxes, and put them inside the uline 9x9x9 boxes.
Balls go through w/o a problem.
