Well, I went from a 3 step to a five step.
Right now I am working on mine because my last 2 steps have me going too far and on slick surfaces I cross the foul line. For me to hit my mark more consistently, I need to take a slow approach.

Maybe your timing is off.  With a 5 step approach, you should start moving the ball after you complete your first step.

Best thing to do would be stand on the approach and just take 5 normal steps and see how far you walk. You want to move like you are just walking. Normally your slide step is a little longer than a normal step and your first step is shorter so that should give you an "idea" of where to start. I use a 5 step approach to and I'm working on getting my steps better in sync with my arm swing.

Well hammer, that is probably because you were already a 3 stepper, so I guess you're still a 3 stepper but with 2 ball-motionless steps.  What I said is for people who have better timing with four step approaches, which is the majority.

Yeah 5 steps works best for me. But now I have to work on slowing down my steps.

Yup, I agree.  I am a 4 stepper and I have much better timing with a 1 ball-motionless step. Since I have a 1 ball-motionless step, I sort of go real slow on the second step to enable the ball to catch up on the third step. If I push off on my first step, my timing is shot to "H" all the way to foul line....

to answer the question - yes.  But why don't you try to learn the 3-4-5 steps approaches.  This helps makes you a better bowler.

Video tape yourself on the lanes. A side view and a view behind your release arm. Side will tell you timing and probably if uscling has incurred. Behind will show tilt and swing path. Can't recommend highly enough the use of a qualified coach or camp.
