Different areas of the country different styles
« on: November 04, 2003, 03:23:17 PM »
Lately I've been traveling.

Been to some new centers in different parts of the country and I'm finding that my most used method is fairly ineffective.

In the past I used a very neutral hand postion and sort of fought off a strong backend.

In travelling in to the Virginia area I'm seeing bowlers here have a release that encourages a strong backend, ie they generate it at the back.

Like a lot of places I'm seeing no longer is the old 10 to 10 pattern around but it seems a lot of places are now putting out an out of bounds at the break point or the synthetic lanes and todays oils are creating this spot.  (As seen on the Pepsi open this week on TV,(Nov 2, 2003).

Style in this area is a more cupped wrist an aggressive release of the hand to generate backend without as much length(many more solid reactives and particles balls seen in this area).

I'm enjoying it as I'm finding a style that is different for me and seems to generate a lot of carry.  Should make me more versatile down the road.

Line that is easy (even on left is 14 to 10 but not outside of that).  On right just a tad deeper but no wider than 10 at the break point.

Because of the style and the OB I notice the pocket is hit less in this area than my home area but the carry is better!

Other bowlers that travel do you see this?

Is it really the area, or is it the synthetics with today's oils?
