PBA Sport Bowling
« on: May 31, 2012, 12:14:47 PM »
This will be my first time attempting to bowl a PBA Sport bowling league and the only experience I can claim is NABBI.  My bowling partner decided to bet me that I want even make 180 at the end of the season..  Had to take that bet but wanted to know what avg did most of you received on your first PBA league...

Thanks for all the input -- Going to the bank and withdrawing the money I will owe already... Dang..  I normally play break points but doesnt seem like I will have that..  Plus I am 2 finger bowler with a spare ball...  lol...   Was hoping to play breaking points without swinging the ball..  Already lost and have 2 weeks b4 season...  Keep the input coming - Even anybody has a chart on what 2 play that would be great..  What are the normal partners they put out...  I heard of Cheetah and some long pattern that reminds me of NABBI... Whatelse

Not a chart, but this link has the pattern lengths and a description on how they are supposed to play.

I don't think it is about equipment matchups as much as your style.  If your game is to take advantage of the dry on house shots you will struggle.  If you can square up and play straighter then you might score nearly as well on some sport patterns as you do on house shots.  I have averaged as high on sport patterns as I did on the house shot one season ( 216 ).  Other times I have been down 10-15 pins.

I start my pbax league tomorrow. This will be the third summer trying it. First time I averaged in the 160's. Last year I was in the 180's until near the end on the Viper that killed me and ended up in the 170's.

I practiced at my local house today and last sunday as they have a sport shot laid out in the morning on designated lanes. It was the USBC national shot and is pretty tough itself.

Well it's the day after the pbax league. I had no idea they were going to cancel all the animal patterns and instead replace them with legend bowlers patterns and a pattern named after a city along with 3 majors.

Earl Anthony was one of the strangest designed patterns I've seen yet. The sheets are guides like said and is a slight advantage if you have a game plan and can read it correctly. Couldn't compare it with an animal pattern but something on the lines of Cheetah or Viper with a big square of oil from like 10-10 halfway down the lane. Many of the bowlers that were able to or just had the style to do it played inside trying to swing it and saw no success at all. Standing a little right playing it like the Viper at start around the second arrow and pretty much out to 8-10 no more or less then that and required hand to drive but much speed or was going left or worse if you just missed. Like many of the animal patterns, I was amazed how sensitive it was to speed.  Shot 730 for 4 with one game over 200. Missed easy spares which cannot do on these shots as a double is not the easiest to come by unless you are good at this. There were few that were and many were mediocre to bad including some new faces just trying this out for the first time in their life.

synthetic...Brunswick newer material lanes whatever they are called. They have less friction then the previous synthetics the 3 Brunswick houses used to have that replaced them about 8 years ago.
