Ever have an odd feeling about someone??
« on: January 06, 2007, 06:01:23 AM »
The last few weeks at the lanes I have seen a new guy kinda just hangin out checking out the leauges, I know what he drives and its very nice. He seems to have an interest at the higher caliber bowlers 205+ average bowlers mainly. Well he was there again today this morning, nothing but junior bowlers all morning till about 1PM then theres a break between 1pm till about 6PM before saturday leauges. Im there this morning coaching the jr/Majors using another style of coaching which seems to be working. While talking to 1 of the kids this guy that ive seen hanging around came up to me today to congratulate me on shooting a 279 game with a 696 set to back up the decent game.

While i had his attention i asked his name, where hes from, and if he even bowls. I get this as an answer.

My name is John Livingston, I'm from New York (queens area), im out on a bussiness trip and will be out in this area for about 4-5 months. Id like to join a few leauges to finish out the season as im a mediocre bowler.

Thanks to acbutch for his Action Bowlers website, I am thinking this guy is one of these types of hustlers. I cant proove it yet but I will be watching this so called John very closely. Im uneasy about this guy even though he seems to be nice overall...

Just thought I'd post this to see what you guys on here think of it also.

I find it hard to believe that a bowling hustler, if there is such a thing anymore, would choose Sunset as the place to work his hustle.

There are more than a few quality players around town who bowl action for large dollars from time to time and I would think they would eventually seek each other out.

This guy is more than likely bored and more inclined to stalking to hustling since he seems to be hanging around to watch the youngsters bowl.

What area of chicago are you from? You seem to know this area quite well with posting what you did. Theres other places that he can goto if he is a hustler that would yeild him alot more money then sunset. 2 to name off, any night at Hawthorn Lanes in Vernon Hills, FairHaven Lanes in Mundeline on teusday nights and im sure theres a few other leauges that could yeild a nice profit if planned out right.

People are aware of this guy at sunset, this could deter him regaurdless of what his plans are. Be it a pedifile, hustler, theif, or perhaps a killer???

I agree with Dan.  Not everybody has ulterior motives.  Look for the good instead of the bad.

In truth, there are very few action bowlers that come long distances to hustle locals for a $.  We aren't living in the 50's & 60's.

I move out of the Long Island area about 8 years ago .. I did bowl in the BAY SHORE bowling Center .. there were a lot of good bowlers there at the time. Rudy Revs was originally from that area and bowled leagues there. A couple of gal's that post here .. come from that area .. maybe they might know this guy! Perhaps they'll see this!

Who cares?  I see no problem with wanting to "hustle" the 205+ average guys.  Now, if he was only watching 150 average bowlers, claiming to be mediocre, & possibly talking them into pot games, thats another story.

Maybe he is somebody thats REALLY good, as long as he sticks to bowling the top guys around, i see no problem with it.

Although, the easy solution is to ask him if he would like to bowl a few games with u.  If he brings up money, say "sure, but only $5ish a game, i cant afford more" or something.  If he still wants to bowl, hes probably legit.  If he bowls poorly, then pulls the old "let me have a chance to win my money back" routine, give him 1 more game.  If at that point it blows u out, hes a hustler, walk away & warn others.

This doesnt have to be such a mystery, ask the man to bowl & find out whats up.

Look at the conspirecy people jump on this,

People won't get hustled unless they want to, there are som many ways to tell if your being hustled. And if you don't know someone, why would you be in such a hurry to try and get into a money game
