WHEN EVERYTHING FALLS APART!!! I think tonight was the worst league night I have had since I started bowling. I couldnt do anything right, my spare percentage was horrendous, I left a split just about every other frame and I barely broke 100 in two out of three games. I felt as if I couldnt focus and everything was out of whack. Finally after bowling a 132 and a 111(embarrassing scores), everything hit me. Everything was wrong. Wrong ball, wrong release, wrong line.

On top of that, two different shots on the lanes. The dry area on the left lane was earlier and came in about 5 boards more than the right lane. Finally got adjusted and threw a decent 199 game. All clean frames which was my only highlight of the night. Do you guys have nights like this and what do you do to combat them??

i had one tonight as well. just didnt feel right at the line, release, didnt feel like i wanted to be there. shot like 610 but it wasn't a pretty set.

The only guarantee in bowling is that you will bowl badly, some where down the line. Another guarantee is that it will happen more than once. Just another happy thought (LOL).

Had a game like that about 6 months ago shot 114 ... I still break out in a cold sweat in the middle of the night.

Luckily, I recovered and finished higher that Laftside's (in)famous 499..LOL!

Rock, we all have those nights.

Monday in league I could not hit my mark, I tried everything I could think of (at the time) to get myself back into the groove. NO LUCK. I shot 178, 174, 181. Not horrible scores, but the spares I was missing made it worse. I was not just missing, I was missing VERY BAD.

What I did was stay after league and bowled....not paying attention to the scores at all. I found after another game or 2 that I was chicken winging the ball.....the elbow kicks out in the follow through. Since then I have bowled 724, and 794. I had a set in between those on Wed that was 648. So I think I got myself straightened out.

What's worst than have an awful night. Is when your really bowling well and you need the first strike in the 10th to get 800. So I get the strike,thinking I got in the bag and it happens you leave a greek church(4 6 7 9 10 ) and end up with a 797. I was sick for a week. I couldn't believe that 1 lousy shot ruined a great series.

That was my series on last Thursday. You know its kinda funny with everyone talking about sandbagging at the beginning of a season. My average on Monday and Thursdays is about 20 pins lower than what my book is and my average on Friday is 10 pins lower. I'm not bagging for handicap pins, I have just been bowling badly.

Its just funny how it happens at a time like this!!

Yup! Had the "mother of all bad nights" in a summer PBA pattern league. We had a shot buffed to 50 feet and the ball was hanging up on my hand just to make it more exciting. We bowled four games across eight lanes and I had a whopping 505 series. Needed a spare in the tenth of the last game to break 100. Any bets what happened? Never brought my average down by 25 pins before in one night! But on the bright side, I'm kinda glad it happened because now I've changed the pitches and span on my grip and am working hard on a better release. If I would have had a better night that time I'd probably still be struggling with the same old grip. So, when a bad night happens, try to learn something from it and turn it into a positive experience!

There are nites where we score exceptionally well, but didn't feel like we bowled well. Then there are nites where we felt fantastic, in sync, and scored like we never bowled before.
I take the opportunity of the nites when things aren't going well to just go back to extreme basics....use a very mild ball, play straighter, and concentrate on timing and release. Hopefully keeping the ball in the pocket, and making easy spares to remain respectable. This has usually brought me back to my "A" game.
Keep throwing, and working....it will return.......unless the ball return fails!

Last night, two leagues, 560ish and 580ish. Dropped shots leading to missed spares, sold hits leading to stone 8s, 10s, 4s, .... 4-9s....arrgggg.
