FedEx: be aware....
« on: May 08, 2014, 06:53:09 PM »
I've been using FedEx for my non bowling items I sell through my Ebay. In the last few months I've used FedEx for shipping balls across the country. The second to the last transaction/shipment, I had shipped 4 balls to three different states. THis was the last week of April.

Anyway, I got my billing statement from my card and I noticed I was over charged for all three packages. I paid for the labels online, two under $17 and one under $28. But I was charged $25.59 for the single ball packages, and $43 for the one package with two balls. I called FedEx and they will credit me for the over charges and lowered the price of shipping of what I orginally had paid.

I've read online that this wasn't the first time this had happened. It's some glitch in their system???  So just an FYI when using FedEx....

Na, I've had them make "errors" before as well. I make sure to keep a close eye on their billing.

This applies to everything you pay for.

I love Fedex and there customer service has always been perfect when ever an error occurs. That means a lot. Glad you caught the mistake.

How do you purchase a discounted shipping label on ebay?  Can you deduct it from your paypal balance?

I use my FedEx account, not ebay's shipping options.

Getting labels from eBay will save you a dollar or two, but I think what you sell has to be listed. But after all the eBay fees it's prolly cheaper having an account with FEDEX.

I've had tons of problems with FedEx over the years. They are my third option for shipping. I used to not buy from people if they shipped FedEx but unfortunately, too many people have switched.

Just yesterday, I won a camera on eBay that came with free FedEx rush shipping. I was tracking the package and it went out for delivery yesterday morning. Never came. So I rechecked the tracking page, and found that it had returned to the depot. The driver apparently overlooked my house, figured it out at the end of his run, and just said "screw it" rather than coming back out. Good thing I didn't actually need it yesterday. Still, the person I bought it from probably paid too much in shipping charges given the extra day it took to get here.

I've bought bowling balls before that got lost for 2 weeks, were damaged upon arrival, etc. Never had a bad problem with UPS or even USPS. It's all with FedEx. I bought one ball about 10 years ago that still hasn't arrived. It's out in the nether somewhere.

Fedex is cheaper and quicker then usps and ups. Ive had a lot of success with them. USPS took two weeks to get me a bowling ball. UPS lost a large package that was being delivered from a neighboring state.

It can happen with anyone and does. I will take fedex and their jets any day. 3-4 days max on standard delivery from me to any where in the country is great.UPS is like tracking a vehicle with a baby in the car. Nothing but stops every few miles.

Jess,

As I read your post, I noticed that almost all problems were with the local FEDEX office (and the people who work out of it) who delivers the packages. I've found that to be true of whichever company does the delivery, from USPS to UPS to FEDEX to DHL.

I have three different address signs at the street entry to my driveway and there are no trees or bushes blocking it, yet I have had drivers from all delivery companies say they couldn't find my address. I have had FEDEX deliveries (years ago) where the box the ball was in had all 8 corners mashed in like they used the box itself for a bowling ball. I have had delivery men hang 16 lb. bowling balls from my mailbox AND from my lamp the end of the driveway. If the driver/delivery guy was there when I saw that, I might have felt the need for physical violence. Yet my UPS delivery guy (same guy for 10+ years now) is the nicest guy you'd want to meet and put the packages either on the rear patio or inside the garage, as I asked him to do. As a result, I tip him handsomely several times a year.
Meanwhile every FEDEX delivery guy is different; most are very good, some are {expletive deleted}!

So the point is who appears good to you depends about 95% of the time on who is your local person either making the actually delivery or managing it.

I use two FedEx offices for several years to drop my items to ship. Both are close to the clinic/hospital where I work and never had a problem with them. The packages which I had issues with were dropped at another location near the house. I'll never use that facility again just so this wouldn't happen again....

I have the same experience as charlest, except it's my local USPS office. Every box I have received from them looks like hell. My local FedEx and UPS offices are very good.

One thing I have noticed though, if it's raining or even looks like it might rain, the FedEx guys will always put the package in a plastic bag, USPS and UPS do not bother with it.

xray, I use a local FedEx drop off, or have the FedEx guy pick it up from my work as we get a FedEx delivery several times a week. I've had the billing issue both ways. It's not common, but it does happen.

is it cheaper to have an account with FedEx? what are the advantages/benefits?

I don't remember ever seeing FedEx come by the clinic, but UPS does in the morning before 10am and USPS right before noon. Fedex is just down the street, so it's really not too bad. It just takes away from my lunch hours......

It depends on how much you ship as far as I know. It's at least 20% cheaper for me to us my account than to ship without using it through FedEx. And my account is always a few dollars less than using the ebay FedEx option.

charlest,

I might agree with you were it not for the fact that I've moved twice, including across state lines once, and have had these problems for 11+ years through three different FedEx hubs. I'll never use them unless I have no other choice.

Your experience with FEDEX seems to contradict what I have found. I've been in one place for 26 years. Since FEDEX seems to have haunted you, if I were in your place, I'd make the same decision.
