FIGJAM + Success Story
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:58:04 PM »
The lefty experiment is over.  Anyone who's been on this site for a while knows how mental I am.  You also know how defensive and close minded I can be and have been.  Thanks in big part to Rico, but in smaller and still significant part to a lot of users here, my world of performance has been flipped upside down.  Down to the point I switched hands for a while because I was so screwed up in the head, not in the arm like I thought, now I'm "better than ever."  Used to whine about house shots and handicap and all that.  Now I'm having fun, am confident, and who'd have guessed, successful too.  Used to be a tournament donator, now I'm cashing and even factoring in everything I bowl.  City tournament this year, 1st in all events, 2nd in doubles, cashed in everything, worst placement was 18th in singles I think.  State tournament, 4th in 6 game combine, 5th in singles, worst placement 21st in doubles.  Greater Ozarks, 6th year down there, never cashed in a single event before, cashing in everything this year but doubles and 6 game combine.  Scratch doubles league this summer, averaging 245 through 20 games including the first 300 I've shot in two years, and back to back weeks have had 800+ the last 3 games (4 game sets), and we're miles ahead of everyone else already.

Points are really to have fun, practice hard, remember you ALWAYS have something to learn, and even when you know something already, a different perspective can unlock knowledge you already have and turn it into understanding, and the cream really does rise to the top.  Handicap be hecked, if you're shooting 245 every game, really hard to get beat very often, and if you do lose, they earned it.  And don't be a negative Nancy and tell me that's going to come down, it's been going up, soooooo . .  Thanks especially to itsallaboutme and northface for always giving it to me straight.  Bowling should be fun even when you're taking it seriously, and there's no way for it to be fun for anyone when you're a douche.  (No hashtags were used in the writing of this narcissistic rambling)

Easy on the shoulder.  You may want to take some advice from Tim McGraw.

I'm posting big numbers on house shots which, as we all know, means I've arrived.  Get off me lol.

You're about 10 years behind for those to be big numbers.  250 is the magic number these days.

Bowling is fun,  or should be. Nothing is fair, including bowling.

Once you get that out of the way it becomes much easier.

There are reasons I don't bowl anymore.  I was good when 250 was a good game.

It's still not too bad here, we only had two bowlers in a city with 1100 league members over 230 this past fall/winter league season.  I think the city average record is 239 or 240.  Still high, but not unreasonable I wouldn't say.

Know John Forst? It's his brother and they're from my neck of the woods.

First met John about 30 years ago when he was on tour. The laneman at the center I got my first job at was a friend of his from their youth and introduced me.
