Sorry for the off topic response but, what does a flare increasing X-hole do besides...increase flare. What are the benefits of increasing flare?

well bruswicks sias more hook little bit earler. and more flare will get u more hook and anuglar ball action i belive to a point, then the law of deminishing return sets in, when track to track is 3/8s of an inch appart that law has set in. That means increasing hooking action is no longer possible buy increasing track flare if that makes any sence at all...

So if the flare rings are 3/8 apart then you can't increase flare any more? And with a flare increasing hole, the ball tends to hook a little more a little earlier and be a little bit more angular?

First off, the benefit of a flare increasing balance hole, is for those bowlers with faster ball speeds or bowlers who are rev challenged, more flare usually means more hook. On longer oil patterns, having balls with this type of balance hole can be a very good thing, because it gets the ball into a roll sooner and just increases the overall hook of the ball.  The location of this type of balance hole would be down next to the thumb, usually in the thumb/positive quadrant.  Another way of increasing hook is pitching the weight hole away from the center of grip.

When a ball flares more, it exposes more fresh coverstock to the lane/oil.  With a ball that doesn't flare much like most plastic balls, it just rolls around that same line that already has oil on it.  And oil doesn't provide great traction on...oil.
