Heart Over Mind.... & Bad Choices...
« on: October 27, 2006, 02:50:51 AM »

So, the last three weeks I've been bowling great. (Nine games with an
average of 223). Have been using one ball for all nine games thinking
I have it all figured out.

Last night.... I pull out the ball that I have been using for all these
great scores and toss it a few times in practice before league and my mind
tells me to try another ball. I toss the ball I have been using and the
second ball and my mind says to me "USE THE OTHER BALL" it has a better
reaction and read of the lane, but my heart says "USE THE BALL YOU HAVE
BEEN USING FOR THESE GREAT SCORES THE LAST 3 WEEKS."

First game, I listen to my heart..... Result: 170.

Second Game (mind takes over and ball switch).... Result: 246.
Third Game (mind tells heart "I told you so!").... Result: 226.

Doh!!

Anyone else ever have this battle going on?

Been there, done that for sure. I'll think tonight calls for ball "X". I'll give it a run and it'll be terrible. But I'll battle it out for a whole game, then play catch up the rest of the night.

Damn, I hope tonight's not one of those nights............

Its happening with my Black Widow and Equation.  I get much better scores with my Equation, but I always want to give my BW a chance in the first game.  I usually end up switching back before the first game in done.

I had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago -- I shot 158 the first game, made a ball switch at the end of the first game (struck out in the tenth) and shot 228, 268 my next two games.  This could have been a monster set if I had been listening with my head and not my heart.  This was a big lesson learned for me...

Thursday night, first game 146 using my Drastic Spec/R and Slate Blue.  Two pocket 7 - 10's and a 4 - 9, plus 4 10 pins, one of which I missed.  Went back to the shop and dusted off my PG Dry/R and had 217 and 219, no open frames and never missed the pocket after the 4th frame of the second game.  Strangest 582 I've ever shot!  --  JohnP

I used 3 balls for the first game, shot 175.Switched to a plastic ball the second and third games and shot 206,204.

I had only been using one ball for league. The shot had been consistent, but evidently the oiling machine failed to put any oil on the lanes.

Never think that you can only use one ball for the night.
