Heavy Oil Ball
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:00:18 PM »
Heavy Oil ball suggestions? Need a new one. Last one was a Haywire, and it just never paired for me. Cover overpowered the core for my style too much. I'm wondering if I should try doing surface to a MH category ball.

I had same results with the haywire, cover was too strong for the core.  I suggest an Alpha Crux for heavy oil.  Recently picked one up and feel the core and cover match perfectly.  Reads midlane really well and eats up the pocket.

Hammer Scandal!

How do you compare your Scandal to your Haywire?

I love my Haywire since the day I got it, but I find my Scandal to be just a bit better, a bit stronger and takes surface changes much better. You can really see the difference in strength  of core. The ball rolls great for me at every surface Ive tried it, very predictable motion. The Haywire had been one of my favorites as long as there was plenty of oil, but i lost carry the deeper i moved in. The Scandal just keeps coming...The Scandal/Scandal Pearl combo has been the best solid/pearl same core combo Ive seen in a while for me. By far the best "strong" combo, not even close to any other pair

Awesome I will have to keep the Scandal on the list. I can't honestly think of a time I've heard a negative review of it. I think my issue with the Haywire was that Middle Roll core not having enough diff for how I was hoping to play it. I definitely notice carry issues when moving left.

I'm also wondering if maybe the Phaze II could fill this gap. Slightly weaker cover than that Haywire and stronger core might be a better marriage.

Hammer Scandal is money for me. Ball really handles the heavy stuff well. Ball also takes surface changes very well. Before I bought the Scandal pearl i polished up the Scandal and could use it on more conditions. Now that I bought the pearl version I took it back to 500/2000. I great compliment for sure. Also picked up the Heat Xtreme and have that ball right in between my 2 Scandals. A pretty tough 3 ball arsenal to beat for med/heavy conditions.

Do you want a snow tire or something that has a little more pop on the backend? There are a lot of current options for the former but if it's the latter I would go with the Maverick. That ball handles a good amount of oil and stays clean enough to make a very strong move off the back. I'm really liking my Grudge Hybrid for that type of motion too.

I would suggest the Brunswick Absolute Nirvana for a heavier oil ball. It will cut through the heavy oil, not start up early, and have a strong backend motion.

To give an idea, what I've been experiencing is struggling in the early games/on the fresh of these heavier sport patterns. Once they get 2-3 games on them I can pull out the Primal Fear and do just fine. I am adding a Dream On soon as well. I guess long story short, I need to fill my Heavy oil control ball position. I feel like the Dream On will handle the MH-H Angular position before transitioning to a strong pearl. I would prefer more diff than the Haywire brought to the table though.
