AMF Saxon Lanes is probably next to close
« on: December 13, 2014, 03:18:53 PM »
I heard from good inside sources that AMF Saxon Lanes in the Twin Cities is next to shut down.  Bowlmor started sticking money into remodeling their bar, and they have lanes that are warping and the head boards are actually loose.

AMF Lanes might be higher scoring, but they clearly do not last as long as Brunswick.  On a brand new pair, I prefer to bowl on AMF, but I don't understand why proprietor would order AMF when they start wearing out after just 10 years of use where Brunswick takes about 25 years to wear out.

Anyway, what a waste of money remodeling the bar.  This is another typical AMF closure where they throw a bunch of money at something and then shut it down just 1 year later.

Nothing official has been announced, but rumors were intensifying and even managers from other centers are believing it.

Actually, I can understand putting money into the bar.  Much higher profit margin with a bar than with the lanes.  When I lived in the Detroit area, there were a couple of bowling centers that were only staying open because of the massive bar revenue (located near some small factories).

In general yes.  They remodeled a bar in my AMF center I worked at.  The problem there isn't the bar.  It's the lanes and the machine breaking down constantly.  The alley needs a different foundation because some of it is wood and some of it is cement.  The wood side is extremely frustrating to bowl on.
