How do you shake the pressure of almost getting a 300?
« on: December 08, 2009, 03:03:36 AM »
On saturday during leauge i had my best game yet. I started the game with 10 strikes in a row and by that time the pressure was on! I've never been that close before. I've had a few 270's but never started the game with 10 in a row. I was way nervous and on the 11th ball I think I let the emotions overtake me and i threw the ball and it went brooklyn and ended up leaving the 10 pin! So i was pretty disappointed that I let my self loose focus like that. So i was wondering how do you stay calm in that situation? Do i need to just keep getting closer and closer til i finally get used to it?

I am an aggressive bowler and have an aggressive personality.

That 300 is mine for the taking.  I do not get nervous.

I just try to stay aggressive.  In the scope of things,
bowling a 300 is not that important.  I get it I get
it.  If I don't, so what.  I have confidence there are
many more 300's in my future.

I guess it depends on your personality on how you should approach
pressure and dela with nerves.

One of my coaches said it perfectly.
you are not throwing 12 strikes in a row. You are throwing one strike 12 times.
Good luck next time!

Keep everything the same..no matter how insignificant it may seem it may make a difference.....
I go through the same routine of gripping a dry sack, grabbing my ball, wiping it down, drying my hand with the air drying.. even if the dryer is broken on a particular lane I will still go through the motions as if it was working.

i unfortunatly can not say well yeah my first one....wish i could,my 2 high games are 287 and 274 the 287  it was just MY time had the standard 3-4 bad shots everything just fell i wasnt freaking out or nothing threw the 10th one dead on pocket heaven ripped em'.....  then the gate stuck down for 5 minutes!!! the whole house was screaming at them to fix it it was 1993 so it was a big deal went up knocked down 7/  that game was shot with my all time favorite ball purple rhino pro *r.i.p.*

just 3 weeks ago 274 i did exactly opposite what everyone here has told ya to do went up for 9th and told my self im gonna mess this up shure nuff pulled it left a 5-10 split that night the dimension could'nt miss it was all me

the reason for the big lull between good games back in 94' i quit bowling long story just too much *life* stuff kicking round.  came back 2 yrs ago in my 2nd league since returning *hunting* for my next chance.it'll be different now my teamate and close friend just rolled one last week so i know my turn is coming!  just go up there thinking those pins called your mom abad name

my best game was a 290 because I left a 10 pin on the first frame!

I was shaking like a leaf on the last 3 shots and that wasn't for a perfect game,I could just imagine the pressure of a 300.

my brother bowled a 300 2 years ago but he was half in the bag,and in that I don't give a crap zone!

just dont think about it. thats what i did on both of my 300's. many times i've had the first nine and then once i got up in the tenth i started thinking about how awesome it would be if i got a 300, then i would go and throw the worst shot of the game. one time i somehow managed to get a 5 count after i had the first nine

like an earlier reply i too make sure i just hit my marks.

My first 300 the front 9 were all pure and in the pocket. when i got up for the 10th i too was nervous due to everyone holding up to watch. I just told myself that they were done and to just throw the ball like i had 9 time before.  it worked for me and the 12th ball i made sure i hit my marks and when i seen that i had hit both i just waved to the ball/pins cause it was out of my hands and the last shot of the game.

First one, I said a prayer for my uncle. The second one was a blur. I was in the zone both times so I don't recall much else.

jlarsen, once you get used to putting yourself in that situation, you need to pay attention to your tendancies as well. Do you always pull the ball on the 11th shot, do your feet get slow on the 12th etc. Once you know what your doing then you can kind of plan ahead in case you need to make small adjustments. Just keep putting the pressure on yourself even when its not there and you'll definitely be more relaxed when it really is there. Then all you gotta do is tell yourself you've been there before, no big deal.

im in a league too. i had a 285 with 10 strikes in a row. i got to the 11th ball and my ball did not hook into the pocket. im still thinking about that night. but i have the highest score in my league. thats one thing that takes my mind off that night. the best thing u can do to shake your mind off of a near 300 night is to try and get close to it again and believe u can do it again.
