How much is USBC fees going to be this year?
« on: September 03, 2006, 04:11:08 AM »
Please don't say 20 dollars like I heard. That is absoultly outragous giving money to an organization that doesn't do anything and promotes cheaters ...aka Mushtare.

Andrew and others - as my folks used to tell me, if you don't like the way things are run, get involved and work to change them...

Not to pick a fight - but it does work. If you don't vote, and/or don't get involved, you don't have a right to complain.

I've never understood that argument?  So, if I vote for something that fails, I have more right to complain?  What if I would have voted that way, but didn't, that shouldn't give me less right to complain.  Sorry...

Secondly, we all know that bowling is in a steady decline.  It has been for a decade, despite the easy of scoring these days.  NOBODY Fing gets it!  People can't/won't commit to 34 week seasons.  Its time to think outside the box and try shorter seasons.

Why is it cheaper to open bowl than league bowl?  Our lineage(not prize fund, just the cost of bowling) is 9.00.  So, I can pay to bowl every week, 9.00.  Or I can open bowl 3 games whenever I want for 9.00.  And centers wonder why they are losing bowlers.....duh!  I've seen centers that charge the league bowlers more to bowl league that open bowl.  Ridiculous.

You can "get involved" but when nobody wants to listen, then its hard to be heard.

To add to what Jabroni said, I don't know about your center, but ours provides the 1st place trophies.  They do not come out of the prize fund.  They also provide considerably cheaper rates when we do go to open play.  Rather than pay $3.50 - $4.50 a game, as a league bowler I only pay $1.75.

Does the center have someone in the back office make a standing sheet for you every time you come in and bowl in practice.  Give you your average...?....

You get what you pay for, lanes that nice and walled up...and a tidy little recap sheet to tell you what you bowled every week and where you are in the standings.

Jabroni, on most topics I'm with you but not this one.  Doesn't our league secretary fees cover the cost of recaps, ink, standing sheets, paper, time and effort?  Well, in all honesty the secretaries have a tough job and get paid far less than they deserve.  But, thats the rate they've agreed to.

Hmmmm....  MY mindset is killing bowling.  Are league bowlers the only ones that deserve "playable conditions"?  A good business man would provide the same service to ALL his customers, both open bowlers and league hacks.

Yes, we do get a discount on open play.  The CENTERS choose the rate, the CENTERS choose the number of weeks.  Most league bowlers purchase food, drinks, etc.  It seems like gouging when you charge them double the "open play rate for league bowlers" just to bowl league.

Anyway, BACK on topic.  The USBC has failed us over the last 20 years.

How much should they get paid?  Our secretary gets 0.75 per bowler per week, which works out to $2700.  How much more should we be paying him because we should be fair about this.

I'm going to take it that you meant $270? If not I'll gladly do it for $1000!

Well, I'm not very good at math.

20 five man teams bowling 36 weeks.

Usually there is a motion in the league meeting to give the secretary a raise, but I havent attended the last two meetings so I am assuming the fee is still 0.75 per bowler per week.  There are always some jerks that vote that raise down.

Wow, that's cheap!  Our lineage is $11.35. Open bowling is $4.95 (after 6pm), so that is a discount.  Then, we pay $0.75 to the secretary, and another $0.35 to a "misc" fund - whatever that is.  That leaves $7.55 for the prize fund.  No trophies.

$20 a week to bowl 3 games and hear people complain about staying late, bowling too slow, food selection is poor, etc.  For $20 I can bowl 6-7 games on the weekends (before 6pm).

Meanwhile, the secretary is going to make over $3600 this season.  I can keep my own average.  I can take as long as I want to throw my ball.  I can practice shooting my spares and not get yelled at for not taking the game serious.

and I guess to stay on topic...our dues are $19.  Yes, USBC has keep their fees the same, and the increase is from the local and state....but guess what?  The local chapter blames the increase on the USBC!  I guess they already have a bad rep, so why shouldn't the local chapter make more money and push the blame.  The local chapter doesn't do anything for us as far as I can tell.

This is the mindset that is killing bowling....

Does the center make sure the lanes are playable before your little practice session....?

I'm going to go with no....

Does the center have someone in the back office make a standing sheet for you every time you come in and bowl in practice.  Give you your average...?....

Probably not....

You get what you pay for, lanes that nice and walled up...and a tidy little recap sheet to tell you what you bowled every week and where you are in the standings.

It's the same thing as paying a tournament director $5 to run the thing.  You think the scores magically get from your recap to the standing sheet for the next week?

$20 thru Syracuse BA.

Our secretary makes a pretty penny off us.  I can't remember the exact figure. On top of that, he's also the treasurer, so he get the treasurer pay as well.

Our weekly rates are rather cheap.  $15 a week, $8.25 to cover bowling, the rest into prize/banquet fund.  $40 for the year sponsorship fee for the team, and that'll cover the secretary pay.

In alot of cases in some alleys there is little incentive to bowl santioned leagues or any league for that matter. I mean, 11 dollars something for lineage? That's outragous! The lineage should be a league rate, not some made up number the house decides on. In many cases, league rates are anywhere from 1.50 to 2.00....some a little more. So, lineage should be 6.00, not 11.50. Leagues have been diminishing because of this reason, and people in league meetings don't want to see the weekly rate go up so they get a smaller prize fund.

As for the 20 dollars a week to USBC, why exactly should I pay them that much? What is that they and the local association do that can justify that price? Did USBC do something dramaticly great recently? Did tons of new members join recently? There is nothing to vote on. Sounds like they want to run it into the ground insted of listen so let them fail.

I was not sure until tonight, but the league fees in the Tampa, Florida area are $17.00 a year.
