I am tired of reading/seeing this...
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:55:04 AM »
How for pretty much every ball, there are reviews on here or other sites that talk about how the ball hits like at truck.  Or how the ball can go through the heads clean and turn on a dime and destroy the rack.  Or how the ball strikes so well, etc.  This is ridiculous.

And for videos, I see different balls from different brands from cheap to expensive doing the same thing: going out and hooking in and one strike after another.  What ball doesn't strike?  That is the question.  Most of these videos are editted and all thrown by different bowlers.  So you have different rev's, axis tilt, etc.  You have different pin placement.  Pin placement?  There are videos with pins everywhere and they all do the same thing (with very minor changes in breakpoint and roll and backend).

In conclusion:  ball reviews need to be less biased (i.e. man X-company created the best ball ever) and have more exact specs, exact bowling style, exact boards, exact lane conditions.  Totally ridiculous!  And videos need to have consistent bowlers.  The only videos I see that are any value with a real bowler is from Brunsnick.com.  These other ones are just worthless.  I saw some 13-year old bowling video with a Storm Passion saying he averages 224.  I see the video and I can count the revs and he does nothing but strike.  What a joke!

Videos need to be made with a robot thrower or with more consistent bowlers and exact rev's etc.

I'm done.

From purely an informative perspective, yes.  However, I view home brew bowling videos as entertainment and nothing more.

Yeah, I also think the ball companies are even more guilty.  For example Lane #1 makes each ball look like the best hooking ball ever.  What is the deal?  You don't see this type of bloating of a product in any other industry.  I am almost convinced that bowling comes down to 95% skill and 5% ball.  I see people taking supposedly the worst bowling balls and making them look awesome.  I see other people take the Inferno line and make them look like plastic balls.  Amazing.

Yes, the lastest release is always the best ball they have, then a month later there is a new best ball ever, etc, etc.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

And I am still trying to think of another industry comparable to bowling where this nonsense occurs.  Still trying...

I don't think you understand the problem with bowling or at least what I am describing.  For all companies and on every release, 'they' say this bowling ball is the best ball ever made.  This ball goes through the heads clean, hooks the most boards, and is great in heavy oil.  I mean how many people really play in heavy oil (tournament heavy is what I mean) weekly?

The music industry doesn't do this.  They don't say this CD is so-and-so's best cd ever.  Actually it is quite the opposite.  Fans and reviewers alike usually say "this cd is great, but not quite up to his/her classic or not nearly as good as 'this cd'"

Your videos are the only ones I respect anymore.  Your release is consistent and you don't go off playing on different lanes and you have detailed specs.  You should of seen this video of a 13 year old I saw yesterday.  After watching it, my patience just about ended with this videos.

Bar5003's video's are very good also.  Check them out.

I can score with just about anything on a THS.  Used a RG Saturn last night on a THS that most sucked on last night.  Shot a measly 597 next best score on the pair was 566 with his high dollar Black Widow against my bargain basement Saturn.

Golf balls do the same thing...longer, more spin, super duper this and that,..it's all hype.  Bowling balls, fishing poles, bows and arrows, cars and trucks,..they all look good when they are new...I have a THING by Dynothane that's 5 years old that looks like new,..and hits and hooks as good as anything new,...

It's been a long time since I played competitive tennis, but I seem to remember racquet makers doing the same thing.

When I watch a video I want to see how a particular ball rolls.  From there I make a judgment on what the ball would do in my hands based on the rev rate and line played in the video.  I've never made a video of myself and posted it here, so I can't really complain if someones video is too dark, or filmed at a bad angle or if they spray the ball.

As far as reviews go, there are some good and some bad.  In the end the only way you're going to know what a ball is going to do in your hands in your house is to throw one.  I still do read reviews of a ball that I'm thinking about though, to get a general idea of what it will do.

I guess we could have it so only the most qualified users here can post reviews or videos.  But then I'm guessing that you'd clamor for more.
