I hate cheaters!!!!
« on: April 03, 2007, 06:58:25 AM »
What you're about to hear is complete bullcrap, also known as sandbagging.

In our state tournament, which I have yet to bowl,  it is already impossible for me to win any handicap events.  Granted I didn't have any in the first place, but its mathematically impossible for me to win. A  buddy of mine who bowled called me and said a lady with a 103 avg. just shot 620 in singles and 605 in doubles.  She was  throwing aggressive equipment with 4-6 balls and was consistent scoring.  Not 106-280-whatever but 190ish-220ish.  Had 907 in singles handicap and their doubles is over the 1750 mark. Their team is also leading by over 200 pins on 2nd. Alot of people are trying to get the scored thrown out, but if it doesn't happen, its messed  up.  I like had a 0.1% chance of winning anything handicap, but for me to have 0 chance before i even put my shoes on really fries me.

Ok i'm done.

A few years ago we had a group of BR members shoot at the Hoinke.  Same problem in singles.  1206 was leading (4 games).  Nothing like knowing you're shooting for 2d place.

Perhaps that's why their attendance has dropped so dramatically over the years.  Used to be you had to get your entry in early to be guaranteed  a squad time.  Now there are so many open lanes you can bowl it any time you wish.

Names and association please.  nothing like publicity on an open forum.  that might force the administration of the tournament into action.  public knowledge anyway is it not?  name, average, event, and scratch scores will do more than just accusations.  given hard data, most will come to the proper conclusion.

I generally don't have any problem with handicap tournaments, but then again, I've never been shut out like that and have never even seen someone be shut out like that.

But a 100-average bowler shooting 600+ twice in a row, coming in with a respectable arsenal, and throwing like she's a scratch bowler is sandbagging.  Call around the houses in her area and see if she's bowled any local tournaments, sanctioned or unsanctioned.  If you can talk to other bowlers in her area, even better.

Make them get re-rated for that tournament.  Go up to the tournament director and let him know.  He will contact the USBC rep and they'll look at past history bowling.  If they have bowled that average for years but show tournaments with higher averages they will be forced to be re-rated for that tournament and then end up with a 200+ average.

USBC is there to protect you from bull crap like this, use the tool wisely!

the only problem is with getting the person rerated it will be impossible to do this year as they have already bowled.  For the tournement director to rerate they must be rerated before the first ball of competion is started.  The touney director may use the scores of this year for rerating said bowler for next year as long as she bowls within 12 month period from this date using a tournament average.  This very situation happened at our local association tourney this year. 160 ave bowler bowls a consistent 230 average.  And yes the association presdent did talk too usbc and the result of it is listed above.

Our State Women's & Open tournaments use the book average.  A few years back I improved my average by over 10 pins. The Women's is scratch in average based divisions.  I reported this to the tournament directors of both tournaments.

The Women's association said there was no rerate rule and they consider it like a reward for improving.

The Open had a rule to rerate if more than a 10 pin improvement.  They rerated me to the higher average.

This kind of thing happens in our association tournament every year, just not quite to such a dramatic degree. There's a group of bowlers who have the ability to carry 190-200 averages the keep themselves around 170 in a crappy out-of-town house then come to team event and blow the doors off everyone. This has happened 3-4 years in a row now, and nobody does anything about it. That's why I only bowl once in each event, put my all-events score up and call it a year. I don't even bother checking the handicap standings anymore; I try to win the scratch money only. I hate baggers!

Some of the problem is these groups have dropped their 10 over rule average.

Our state tournament (Ohio) had a guy back in '96 book in the 150's and then shoot scratch scores in every event. This guy was in the lead in 3 of the 4 events (singles, double, A/E). The state association was using a 10 over rule and busted him and threw his scores out. He sued and dragged it out to the point of where we didn't get checks until some time in early October (tourney ended in May). The association won but incurred a decent enough amount of legal fees that they dropped the 10 over rule the next year.

In March of 2000, I checked the leader board in singles at states and there were 4 scores over 900 in singles with 927 leading. When you have a score with handicap that exceeds the maximum allowable if all strikes were thrown, there is a problem. When I approached the TD with my concern, he shrugged his shoulders and said "what are you going to do?"

As long as the simple minds that run our game continute along this path, then the real skill will be in how low you can bag and then walk away with everything before a rerate comes around. That is not a skill, but deceit.

I have it on good authority that she is being DQ'd.  You can PM me if you want more details but she won't be on the leaderboard when you get there.

In some areas of the country (MINE IN A HOUSE) a 235-240 ave can still get you 10-14 pins. This is because of the amount of bowlers in this league with over inflatted averages.

if she is truly dq'd, congratulations to the state td's for doing their job.  not many would have the guts to do that.  i still want name, association, and scratch scores in case she ever shows up here in california.  these people need to be identified so that they cannot try this on other unsuspecting states.  it would be nice if there was a national database of known baggers.  it would certainly help all of the bigger tournaments that draw across state boundaries.

From what I was told directly from the SC State tourney director, she is being re-rated, then DQ'ed, and then reported to USBC.  It should happen within the next couple of days.

Things like this could bring credibility to bowling, after what happened with the 900 bowling jr leaguer
