new bowlers arsenal
« on: April 18, 2008, 11:02:31 AM »
I've bowled two summer leagues over the last 4 or 5 years now.  I want to get more serious about my bowling.  My arsenal consists of a Green Gargoyle, a Columbia Scout (pink) and a Street Rod (coming next week!!).  Is this a pretty good arsenal for a newer woman bowler?  My average is between 140 and 145.

So, how many balls does everyone out there take with them to league?

Thanks!

3 balls work for me although I usually take 4. The 4th ball rarely makes it out of the bag, sort of a last resort when nothing else is working. One of those is always a plastic ball.

Way back wnen I first started bowling leagues, I had one ball but then there wasn't much to choose from.

Today I take 3 to the lanes, my plastic spare ball and 2 strike balls.  I generally decide on 1 for the night and try to stick with it for the set.

For my sport league I take 3 - 5 strike balls and the plastic the first night of a new pattern.  After that first week it is usually 3 strike and the spare ball.  Again, I try to pick one strike ball for the night, but since we move pairs after 2 games, I sometimes have to make a ball change also.

For the first 4-3 years that I bowled, I had one ball at any one time, starting with Urethane then progressing to an RPM Ultra/C pearl, after about 2 years with that I got a polyester (an old yellow dot). I think you can bowl with one ball up til about 160 average then you want to think about extra equipment to give you more options.

That said, it sounds like you've got a good setup, as long as you concentrate on shot consistency.
