Compensation for a sub.
« on: April 18, 2008, 04:31:40 AM »
Hey guys and gals, I know a few of you have had to deal with this before. Is it proper to give someone who subbed for your team last season a cut of your prize money? If so, how much is fair? We had a female bowler sub for our team for 5 weeks, and male bowler sub for us for 4 weeks. I think we should give them something, a couple of my teamates are in the middle. Help me out here. Thanks

Why couldn't you take the total amount won, divide by total number of games bowled. Take that amount and multiply it by number of games bowled would equal the amount each bowler would receive.

If they sucked, they get nothing. If they stepped up and bowled great and won your team some money, then that will be a decision that you and the other teammates would have to make. You may want to throw he/she a $50 spot from the entire team as a thanks but in no way do you legally owe it to them.

Back when I did sub, I didn't pay for bowling so I expected no money.  When we do use a sub, the sub pays nothing and receives nothing.

If we had a regular sub and they paid the fees, then they would receive a part of the prize fund based on the number of weeks they paid.

I sub on Friday nites, I don't pay for bowling, so I don't expect any money from the prize fund.  I figure my compensation is free bowling.

I don't expect any money back if I didn't put any money in...

Years ago we had a team member get transferred out of state for his job like 3 weeks into the season. We picked up a young man who couldn't afford to pay but was subbing in the league for a couple of years. Three of us split his fees for bowling all year and he just covered his pots. On payout night he was shocked when we gave him money. The 3 of us decided he deserved something for being there every week so we divided the piece fund by 5 and then split one share 4 ways and gave him one of those shares. He was very grateful because he didn't expect anything since he didn't pay.
