Let the 2018-2019 Staff Changes Begin
« on: May 30, 2018, 05:56:30 PM »
It's the time of year where we start hearing of some staff changes.  As of today, the most recent changes are:

- Shannon O'Keefe switched to Hammer/EBI (many of you already knew that)
- Bryanna Cote switched to Storm (was with Track/EBI)
- Gabriella Mayfield switched to Motiv (was with Brunswick/DV8)
- Natalie Goodman has joined Motiv (her fiance EJ Tackett of course is with Motiv)

As of the past 48 hours, the most recent change is:
- Connor Pickford has decided to leave Roto Grip (announced on his Facebook page)

In Connor's case, it makes me wonder if he's looking to head back to Motiv or if he'd be looking at EBI or Brunswick.  Only time will tell.

Sometimes a player leaving a brand has nothing to do with the equipment and everything to do with the player support that they receive from the ball reps. While I do not know Connor Pickford personally, I can only imagine how long the wait is for a second set of eyes behind the PDW, Duke, Belmo, Jesper, & the other 10-12 high profile pros on Storm/Roto staff.

Very valid and pretty relevant point there.

That would be an interesting game/exercise - a tournament where all the staff is bowling, with only one ball rep per brand, what is the hierarchy of assistance?

DP3, is that your order of priority for Storm?  PDW, Duke, Belmo...hell, you didn't even mention Kent!

Any takers? For Roto, would it have gone - Malott, S. Williams, Pickford? Big B - Bohn, WRW, Sterner?

Smallwood would probably be in the same breath as Sterner as well.

Radical is probably the smallest company on tour right now. Well, between them and DV8

Some staffers need more "hand holding" than others. Some can just turn it on auto-pilot and bowl their asses off until they get to the show without much help "from the back". Some of the best players I've seen at this are Bill O'Neill and Dom Barrett. I think Brett at Motiv gets the most out of his players, especially once they get on a deep run towards the show. I've heard of some guys who would never throw a brand because of certain reps at the company, be it for any number of personal reasons. I've heard more than one staffer say they could never throw Brunswick because they don't get along with Chuck. Some players & their rep have a personality mix that is a perfect match for success, see Brett & EJ @ Motiv, or Chuck & Smallwood/Rash @ Brunswick, Del & Pete @ Storm.

If you're a ball rep on tour in charge of 12 guys, I'm sure you would prioritize your time according to salaried staffers in need first. Then who has the highest pinfall, just making sure they maintain their look as they probably don't need much more help if they have the highest pinfall total, then the rest of the staff.

I gotta imagine for storm/roto its got to be tasking to keep track of guys as they staff the most. Mack, Warren, Schlem, Boomer, Etc. have to keep up with their responsibilities of being a rep and keeping track of their guys as they bowl. It could have been match ups with equipment or layout with what they're asking him to do compared to what he sees.

Rash would have to be in there for Big B, though he's now throwing all three brands on TV.

It doesn’t appear that Pickford has been picked up by anyone as of yet - he’s wearing a Roto jersey while bowling the Greater Jones Open this morning.

It looked like Pickford was throwing a bunch of equipment, using a mix of Storm and the Big B brands.  From his Facebook page earlier today on not being able to get a double:

"No. Tried Intel, 035 pearl, Beyond Ridiculous, No Rules Pearl, Marvel Pearl, Phaze2, Turmoil Pearl, and Vandal Destroy."
